With each episode my love for this show grows!
hodomb24 March 2022
Like always, this show is getting better and better! This episode took the time to bring us down from the fast paced season premiere, with some meaningful scenes that yet still carries the same tone of the previous episode by introducing us to the storylines that will be played out this season. Elizabeth and Lucas did not disappoint, their scenes literally gave me butterflies. Even with next to no dialogue you could really see their passion and love shine through.

Small moments add up to big moments
austenpride24 March 2022
Despite a concerted effort by some disappointed fans to discredit this show, the writers have shown that small moments are important and meaningful. Sadly some seem to have missed the point, calling the episode boring. The writers are still building up the plots for the season, but many things happened in this episode that were important. Elizabeth and Lucas became closer, after she tells him that small gestures are just as important as big ones. Mei is the only one who can get close to Nathan's horse after the accident. I won't say more and spoil the show, but it's worth a watch.

Love When Calls the heart
ezebenme-9828124 March 2022
This show is the best show on TV! Love Elizabeth and Lucas's love story! Can't wait to see them engaged and married. Love Lucas and Little Jack together, he will be a wonderful Father to him, and a wonderful husband to Elizabeth.

Be careful
Arnie-1300720 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Do the writers know nothing about Canada in 1919? There was prohibition and gambling was illegal. So Lucas would have been in jail, and Elizabeth fired for even talking to him.

Did she forget how shocked she was to hold school in a saloon in the early seasons? And now she's hanging out in one? This is so unrealistic. What are the writers trying to do to this show?

Plus, all the chemistry is with the Mountie and she has zero with the gambler. Why is she even with him? Because of the expensive gifts and grand gestures? I thought the whole premise of the show was the teacher and the Mountie. And didn't she profess over and over in the early seasons that it wasn't the price of the gifts that mattered, but that they came from the heart? Did the writers change and not even watch the early seasons of this show?

How is this show still on the air?

There are too many good things on TV now than this dribble.

So good!

Warning: Spoilers
Enjoyed the episode. The romance is fabulous. The town is getting crowded. So much overall story unfolding. Hickam is mayor! I love it. He's been an underutilized character for too long. I think there will be a huge learning curve but he's a smart guy and will step up and do his job.

Terrible writing!
savjean17 April 2022
The writing of this show has gone from terrible in Season 8 to worse! It used to be such a great show. How terrible that they have made it into a boring soap opera with boring storylines.

It was gentle lambs?

Warning: Spoilers
The first episode was equivalent to the fast and the furious, there was so much happening, but still exciting. This episode was much tamer and you could track the storylines which were still exciting. Although there were different plot lines going on, you could still track the connections. The awkwardness between the 3 mains characters appear to be improving. Lucas visiting Nathan at the infirmary with ice cream was a hoot. And Nathan actually being more sarcastic and funny in this episode was refreshing. I'm sure all 3 of them will become good friends.

Things are changing for the better
rmas324 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After that wonderful welcome back to Hope Valley in episode 1, the second episode starts with the aftermath of the hit-and-run and Nathan's injury. Of course, the townspeople rally together to do what they can to help one of their own. Mei Sou proves to be a huge help especially with Newton. Lucas & Elizabeth are going strong and discuss appreciating the little moments and gestures in their relationship. It seems to me, Lucas has his priorities straight. We finally get the results of the election and it is unexpected, but makes for great comedy and a bigger role for the new mayor. Both Fiona and Henry step up and admit their faults with regards to the Jerome Smith issue. The Canfields struggle with Cooper's doubts and revelation. My heart hurt for Lee. He really wanted to be mayor, but Rosemary keeps proving time and again how wonderful they are as a team as she supports him. This episode was good mix of everything. I'm liking this new fun side of Nathan and the new dynamic he has with Lucas & Elizabeth. Mei Sou is even more mysterious now that she's asking for Bill's legal advice. There were lots of cute Lucas and Elizabeth moments too! Solid episode. Great writing.

HOPE VALLEY AT ITS BEST
Nellie191624 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was one of two setup episodes which set the trajectory for the rest of the season. As such, it may not have been as action packed as many would have liked, but it was full of Hope Valley charm. In the episode, Hope Valley found out who its new mayor was, and it may not have been who people would have assumed. But the real draw to the episode was the interactions of the people - even former rivals.

Favorite parts - 1) I always love Lucas & Elizabeth's relationship which in this episode is shown as growing more and more in love.

2) Interaction with Nathan - namely Lucas & Nathan's Ice Cream scene. Comedy gold. Bravo to both Chris McNally & Kevin McGarry on that performance.

3)Henry's struggle - Martin Cummins is a remarkable actor and his portrayal of Henry Gowen is one of my favorite parts of the show. Henry's journey is going to be amazing this season and I can't wait to see it unfold. The imagery of him outside the church is a baseline from where he is to come. Really spectacular.

The ensemble cast is all amazing and I love them all. 9 years in and this show just gets better and better. Don't listen to the naysayers, several of whom admit they are trying to rig these ratings and some of whom have said they didn't actually watch the show. Watch it for yourself. Decide for yourself. My recommendation is high on WCTH Season 9. I think you will enjoy it too!

The writing is lacking
famyarn20 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mean the episode was not all bad. Its just sad all the chemistry is still between the Mountie and the teacher. I mean she has zero chemistry with her supposed boyfriend. When are the writers going to wake up and turn this ship around before it goes down?

If you want to know the truth, dont believe these reviews that are all tens. I mean thats unrealistic. Go back and do your own investigation. The truth will be evident. The first 7 seasons garnered praise, star ratings between 8 to 9, and consistently.

Then fast forward to seasons 8 and 9. Ratings in the toilet, (6 is being generous) and rightly so. With a new show runner, every episode became full of angst and anxiety. No longer the heart warming show we all had come to love. Its bad and only getting worse. The more they beat up the Mountie, and the more they try and shove the relationship between Lucas and Elizabeth, a relationship devoid of any chemistry, nor any real depth, down our throats. Its dead in the water. Dont believe the hype. Look it up for yourself. Youll see.

Watch the first 7 seasons and enjoy, but do yourself a favor and dont go any further. Its one disappointment after another.

Creating Mystery in Hope Valley.
terryh7424 March 2022
It's the second episode and we're already seeing signs that there might be trouble coming. Who hit Nathan? While some of the characters try to decide what their future holds. The writing this season is getting better with each episode. Love the pairing of Lucas and Elizabeth, love Faith coming back into the show with the Canfields. So many story to follow and enjoy.

Bad Writing continues
rsondra3 April 2022
This show just doesn't feel like WCTH. Instead, it feels more like a soap opera. The scenes don't end well and most of them have no plot. It appears the writers are purposely writing bad storylines for a few characters . L and E remain boring and have 0 chemistry. I have tried my best to really like this couple, and I just can't. No depth, NO deep conversations about one another feelings, dreams, etc. How can she be with this man, when she knows nothing about him or his dad. The fact that L got his mother to publish her book is major problematic synopsis. You had L last season not wanting to discuss any issues with E and yet she chose him. She had deep conversations with N last season and we are yet to see those deep conversations with L and E this season. Fiona is great, Faith is great but really have no true storylines. Mei is just complicated and the last thing N needs. Bill does not have enough air time, great actor but not being used to their advantage. It has become the L and E show. Sad but true. How can you enjoy a show, when all the cast members except two of them are in the background. Great actors/actresses but given mediocre writing scenes. The writers and producers have taken away L, I really enjoyed him being the bad guy with the bad guy attitude to N2.0. L has literally changed 180 degrees and CM is trying but is failing in that department. Missing A, and I'm sure it's done on purpose by the head writer so people can focus only on L and E. Give it a try and see for yourself, the missed plots/scenes/no depth in L and E relationship/no deep conversations in L and E relationship, just kissy, kissy. So boring. I found myself falling asleep.

Really Sweet Episode
DragonLady831 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ah...Nathan looks like he's going to be okay. But what about Newt?

The scene with Lucas and Nathan was really funny. Chris McNally was a great straight man and Kevin McGarry really hammed it up.

It's also good to see Elizabeth and Nathan getting along so well - as friends. Of course, that's the Hope Valley way.

What's going on with Cooper? Joseph has his hands full.

Henry (who is one of my favorite characters and wound up in jail in the last episode) has a lot of thinking to do. I don't trust this oil guy he's dealing with. I hope it doesn't bring trouble.

And the ending was sweet. Hope Valley has a church service again and the community is all together - except for Henry. Poor guy. I hope he realizes he belongs too.

Overall great! Loving the season so far.

Another brilliant episode
kirstengower24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The storylines are developing and we finally have a new mayor for Hope Valley. Love the little and big moments between L&E, Lee seeking a new purpose with Rosemary coming to the rescue, of course. Nathan being a difficult patient so thanks goodness for a stern doctor Carter. So much to take in and I loved it all. John Tinker is truly a brilliant showrunner.

Romance, Friendship, Community, Fun-It's All There!
spm4222924 March 2022
When Calls the Heart has progressed from a c.1910 setting to a current c.1920 setting through its 9 years on the air. Change is coming to the town and this episode begins to show how the community will grapple with it. Family conflict resolution, a second chance at romance and love, mysterious newcomers, community spirit ...it's all still there! It really is a joy to be able to spend an hour watching something that is both heart warming and fun, with some intrigue thrown in for good measure!

this show is getting stale, the story is so boring i can hardly keep awake
margaretyong-9454124 March 2022
I will watch another 1 or 2 more episode and if it is so boring, seriously will give up. The E&L story line is all about kissing kissing which has no chemistry at all. The mountie is of course beaten down and the acting by some of the actresses are so overdone! Seriously need a rewrite of the whole story.

Misleading
Sar-835997 April 2022
Let's be honest. No show deserves so many 10/10's. Don't be fooled. It's the small band of TL fans trying to bring up the ratings. But the proof is in the pudding, or perhaps the star ratings????

If you want to know the truth, look back at the ratings of this show Season 1-7. A collective and well deserved 8 to 9 stars, consistently. There were good writers, a cohesive storyline, and the show was heartwarming. And a joy to watch!

Now, do yourself a favor and look at Season 8 ratings. Consistently in the sixes, sometimes even lower (the finale got a 5 and for good reason), and that's generous!!! I'll tell you straight: it stinks!!!! Why? Because of the change of writers. The new show runner didn't bother to even watch the first 7 seasons of the show. So therefore, from Season 8 on, nothing makes sense, every episode is full of angst and anxiety (not to mention that this is his well known undisputed style of writing - if you don't believe me look into the other shows he's been associated with, some he was let go from). Gone is all the feels and all the heart warmth. This show is now the sad shadow of its former self.

Sadly, this bad writing carried forward into Season 9, as you can see, and it's just getting worse.

It's sad for the exceptional actors (who I have loved watching for 9 seasons) who are given nothing good to work with. And the amazing crew that love working together, though probably not so much under his writing style. And, it's horrible for the faithful fans who kept watching, hoping it would get better. It hasn't.

But above all, it's sad for the legacy of the show, which has showcased so many beautiful stories and so many countless, wonderful moments over 7 seasons. Not to mention the whole host of actors who have come and gone, and poured their heart and soul into it, over so many years, and so beautifully.

Now, I find myself among of a collective chorus of tens of thousands of disappointed fans, who only wish someone would get their act together and hire somebody new to write for this show! It's the only hope!

If you reading this, do yourself a favor: watch the first 7 seasons, enjoy them, and let the show end with the "hug heard round the world". Pretend Season 8 and 9 don't exist - they aren't worth your time anyway.

Lighter Tone
lindysue-0150630 March 2022
I'm loving the lighter tone of S9. Storylines continue to come together and there is a good amount of humor in this episode. We are learning more about Mei Sou and we are surely glad she is in HV to help with Nathan and Newton. Interested to see where this relationship goes! We have a new mayor! He's going to have his hands full with all the changes coming to HV. Elizabeth and Lucas are adorable and so in love. Can't get enough of them!

Warning: Spoilers
I think this would be another one of my favourite episodes, we didn't get a kiss but L&E had sooo many little moments they shared and I can't wait to see what else is in store for them! I also loved that ending with the church singing it's such a nice ending to an amazing episode.

Rushed yet boring
carolinakanter24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I so wanted to enjoy S9. I sticked around although the S8 finale was not what I hoped for. Now I'm doubting more and more to keep on watching. I actually had to watch this episode twice as I literally fell asleep. There are too many storylines and they are all too hasty. Nathan seems to be used for comic relief this season and for one reason or another, it does nothing for me. As much asI like Kevin McGarry as an actor, these two episodes just did not justice to what he is capable of. Also, I'm not so interested in the friendship he develops with Elizabeth and Lucas. It feels forced and also too soon. I miss Allie. And Mei Suo is a potential live interest for Nathan but I don't feel the sparks between at all.

I think that for Lucabeth lovers, this season must be heaven, so if you are a Lucabeth fan, enjoy. But if you, like I am, are rather indifferent towards them, it is actually pretty boring.

So all in all, it was a hard episode for me. I've decided to watch until E4 and if it does not get any better, I'm out.

Another amazing episode
foreverheartie453725 March 2022
The cast and crew brought it again with another amazing episode! So many exciting things transpired in this episode and future storylines were set up. Fiona worked to make restitution with Henry. The Valley Voice continues to grow. Mei Sou is integrating herself in the town. Faith grows her doctoring skills with Nathan. And Lucas and Elizabeth continue to grow their relationship.

For all those clamoring about how unrealistic is is for Elizabeth to be with Lucas. WCTH has never been an 100% historically accurate show and never claimed to be. If it had been Elizabeth would have been forced to retire from teaching when she married Jack. And she's still teaching.

Also to the whole notion that the leading couple doesn't have chemistry. Chemistry is subjective. These former fans think Elizabeth only has chemistry with Nathan. Myself and Lucabeth fans think she has great chemistry with Lucas. In fact I didn't see an ounce of chemistry between Elizabeth and Nathan. But if people did that's totally fine. To each their own. As I said earlier chemistry is subjective. Something these former fans should remember. Sometimes you feel it and sometimes you don't. Opinion isn't fact.
