Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, half-vampire and half-human, who is training to be a guardian at St Vladimir's Academy along with many others like her. There are good and bad vampires in their world: Moroi, who co-exist peacefully among the humans and only take blood from donors, and also possess the ability to control one of the four elements - water, earth, fire or air; and Strigoi, blood-sucking, evil vampires who drink to kill. Rose and other dhampir guardians are trained to protect Moroi and kill Strigoi throughout their education. Along with her best friend, Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, a Moroi and the last of her line, with whom she has a nigh unbreakable bond, Rose must run away from St Vladimir's, in order to protect Lissa from those who wish to harm the princess and use her for their own means. The line "Whoa, Ducky, I do not have time to deal with your feelings right now," is a reference to the movie Pretty in Pink (1986). Zoey Deutch's father, Howard Deutch collaborated with John Hughes on the same movie. See more »

In the film while fighting Natalie, Rose breaks her arm, and can't even get up to defend herself. When Dimitri comes down to save her she is able to pick herself off the floor and restrain Natalie to the prison door with leather. And in the next scene she is wearing a cast. She would not have been able to maneuver her arm the way she did in the previous scenes if it was injured. See more »

Lissa Dragomir: [about a song on the radio] Oh, Father, turn it up.
Rose Hathaway: Please, Mr. Dragomir, I love this song.
Andre: This song is sick... the traditional "vomit" definition of the word.
Lissa Dragomir: Shut up, Andre. Me and Rose want to hear it.
Lissa's Mom: "Rose and I," Lissa, "Rose and I."
Lissa's Dad: I think the tune is rather catchy.

Read the Book the movie blows!
20 June 2014 | by See all my reviews

Really the book is much much 100% better. The movie was awful, choppy crap casting. I realize you can't put everything from a book in a movie but seriously this movie was choppy at best no smooth flow. Why did you have to muck the movie up this badly? Rose was supposed to be beautiful, curvy, Turkish decent, sassy. This movie made here seem weak and in the books she was not weak. Lissa was supposed to be charismatic and lovable/likable. The actress didn't pull that off. Dimitri was supposed to be a Godlike guardian that liked to read western novels. Missed the mark there. Bad movie makers bad naughty shame on you They suck at school and you suck at movies. ---Le sigh
