The Creep Behind the Camera (2014)
The Creep Behind the Camera was an actual filmmaker named Vic Savage; a real scumbag whose only real skill was in his uncanny ability to convince the residents of 1960 Glendale, California that he was making "the biggest, the BEST monster movie ever made!"

The true story of Vic Savage, aka AJ Nelson and the making of his monster opus The Creeping Terror (1964) is told in the narrative dark-comedy The Creep Behind the Camera. Psychopath director AJ - with his battered wife in tow - travels from a bakery in Connecticut to sleazy underground Hollywood with the dream of making monster movies... encountering desperate actors, drugs, prostitution rings lead by old ladies murder and even Charles Manson along the way.

Hilarious and wholly disturbing look at human nature and delusional demagoguery, The Creep Behind the Camera is a rollercoaster ride that takes a nostalgic but cautionary look at the era of drive-in cinema at its very worst.

The monster was BEHIND the camera.

    Funny and CREEPy!

I saw the Creeping Terror years ago... who knew all this crazy stuff went on behind the scenes?! Josh Phillips as Vic Savage makes on of the all time great despicable characters of all time. It's quite a roller-coaster ride! I got to see it in Montreal as part of Fantasia Fest and the audience loved it. I'm pretty sure it went on to LA too. Great music score and photography. The story, which kind of goes all over the place, follows this scumbag AJ Nelson from some goofy bingo hall all the way to Hollywood. When there he abuses his sweet wife (wonderfully played by Jodi Lynn Thomas) in all manner imaginable. Then he makes the Creeping Terror. The whole thing is a great look at how the Hollywood system attracts the worst sort, and how they can convince people they know what they are doing even though the writing is clearly on the wall. I really, really recommend this film!
