It's Freaky Friday for Pete and Myka while Artie falls for a femme fatale
Tweekums24 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens Myka and Pete are running down a thief who is using an artefact... he gets away but they do manage to retrieve the artefact. It is a griffon statuette whose eyes flash just before they bag it. While this is going on Claudia detects some unusual financial activity; an insurance firm has donated half of its profits to charity; as Pete and Myka are busy Artie and Claudia go to investigate. Once Myka and Pete have finished their case they go off to enjoy their weekends... Myka going to her school reunion and Pete having a passionate time with Kelly the vet. Suddenly their eyes flash and they find themselves in each other's bodies.

We now have two intertwined but unrelated stories. Pete and Myka get back together and try to figure out what caused them to switch bodies and then undo it. While Artie and Claudia link the senior members of the insurance to a woman they met at a bar; Artie takes precautions before confronting her but to no avail. This leaves him utterly bewitched by her.

This was an enjoyable, light-hearted episode. Having two separate stories worked well as neither was really strong enough to carry the whole episode. Both stories were fun; Pete and Myka's section was clearly inspired by 'Freaky Friday' and similar body-swap films. It was mostly played for laughs although there were more serious moments... Pete, a recovering alcoholic, finds himself in Myka's body after she downed several martinis. There is also the revelation of what will happen if they don't sort things quickly... something rather messy! Artie and Claudia's section was fun too, especially after Artie gets affected leaving Claudia to try to solve things. The cast were on good form; it was particularly fun seeing Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly playing each other's characters. Overall a fun episode with one rather gory scene.

XXOO, XXOO, XXOO ad nausea....

Warning: Spoilers
This is the episode where WH13 falls down the slippery slope of romance and becomes yet another stupid, mushy soap opera. Or a Swizzle opera (did you see the brand name, AGAIN?). Others have speculated that the writers and producers on other shows turned to the dark side to bolster ratings (lure in the women-folk). This is exactly what RUINED "Eureka" and "Grimm". Ironically, both of those shows and this one came out of NBC-Universal. Those of us that enjoy science fiction (and have actually READ Wells, Verne, Poe, etc.)watch shows like this for just that, SCIENCE FICTION, not romance. If I wanted that, I would watch the Hallmark Channel which is currently running Christmas movies in July. I know this is falling on deaf ears, but no one gives a rat's a*s about finding true love, getting married and living the Canadian dream.

The best laid plans...

Warning: Spoilers
Myka and Pete are going to take a couple of days off and they both have been plans; she to attend her high school reunion(where she hopes to connect with the football captain she had a crush on) and he to spend some afternoon delight time with his girlfriend, Dr. Hernandez. Before going, they retrieve an artifact that is half lion and half eagle. While bagging the artifact they are, unknown to them, infused by a strange light. A short time later they do a body switch - Pete now has Myka's body and she his with results that are occasionally humorous but not really as humorous as the writers undoubtedly intended. The humor is basically just adolescent. Meanwhile, Artie and Claudia investigate odd goings on at an insurance company. Senior male executives all of whom were supposedly happily married suddenly fall madly in love with a femme fatale. The episode is sufficiently entertaining if not great. One of the things I like best about this series is the music and songs they use. In this case, it is neat that they use "Afternoon Delight" when Myka first sees the former football captain - now that was funny.
