Thomas goes undercover
Tweekums17 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This, the fourth story in the series, sees regular lead Katrine take a back seat as Thomas goes undercover in an attempt to discover the identity of somebody who has being killing members of a criminal gang; including an undercover police officer. The story opens with Thomas standing over an apparently dead body with a pistol in his hand; the action then jumps back a week and we see how he came to be there. While he is talking to an undercover police officer a member of the gang approaches and the officer explains that Thomas is his brother. Soon afterwards the officer is dead and the police have no way to get another officer into the gang; that is until Thomas walks into their sports club and requests to see the boss. He is accepted as the dead man's brother and is soon given work; mostly looking after the boss's young son Sebastian. During one job one of his colleagues beats their contact to the ground and claims that the man knows about Thomas's 'brother's' death and tells Thomas to shoot him. He is wavering but before he is forced to shoot the police arrive and he flees. After this he gets into a fight with the other man and gets a nasty looking injury; luckily the gang has a doctor who will fix him up no questions asked. The longer he is undercover the more trust he earns and eventually learns that the boss is dying. Everything seems to be going okay until he learns that his own son has been rushed to hospital; going to see him would risk exposure but with his son desperately ill he has no choice.

I think this is possibly the best story in the series so far; which came as a surprise to me as up till now I wasn't that interested in Thomas's character. Here though Jakob Cedergren did a great job in the roll; brilliantly portraying the conflicting emotions his character must suffer; one the one hand he is an agent of the law trying to catch a killer and expose a criminal gang and on the other he is sympathetic towards his sick boss and takes an interest in Sebastian. When the killer is ultimately exposed I was a little disappointed as his motives didn't really seem to justify his actions; still up till then things had been tense and had kept me interested… I'm glad the stories are shown in one go here rather than in two episodes so I don't have to wait a week to find out what happens.
