Storyline

In a dumpster at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, a three-star admiral finds the body of a long-time friend, who was overdue for a meeting with him; Gibbs and company investigate. At a Trailways station Tony and Ziva pick up Tony's father, who appears to have become somehow connected with the victim in question; Gibbs questions Sr., and the two of them start on unfriendly terms; however, Sr. agrees to do a favor for the gang. Abby finds something in her lab, then something in a taxicab, then McGee finds something on the Internet, then they put it all together. Gibbs sends Ziva with Sr. on his chore, and another guest recognizes her and knows her background and status. Abby uses a connection to produce an answer and a kiss. Ziva and Sr. run into trouble, but they handle it. Jr. and Sr. talk, and they agree to do so even more. Written by DocRushing

Trivia

The serial number of the missing Mark 15 hydrogen bomb, 47787, is very close to the serial number of the so-called "Tybee bomb", an actual Mark 15 hydrogen bomb lost off the coast of Georgia, USA in 1958 following a mid-air collision between a B-47 bomber and an F-86 fighter. Following the collision, the B-47 jettisoned the bomb, serial number 47782, to avoid the danger of the bomb detonating if the damaged aircraft crashed while attempting to land. Despite numerous searches, the missing bomb has never been found. See more »

Goofs

At one point McGee says that Tony Sr. is at the Mid-Atlantic Trailways station, at 15100 First Street NE; however, no such bus station exists, there's no suburban Trailways station anywhere around Washington, DC, and the cited address does not exist. Later Tony and Ziva meet Sr. at the alleged fictional Trailways station. Two coaches, marked for Mid-Atlantic Trailways, sit nearby, wearing blue trim and blue markings rather than red ones. [Blue is the signature color of Greyhound, and red is the signature color of Trailways.] Further, a supposed Trailways driver wears not a Trailways uniform but rather a 1990-era Greyhound uniform. There's no factual carrier known as the Mid-Atlantic Trailways. See more »

Quotes

NCIS Agent Cashier Fred Seymour: Anthony DiNozzo Sr is not only staying at a $1500 a night suite. He's also running up a huge tab, spa treatment, manicure, French Champagne, and I just got call he's ordered a limosine for tonight.
Special Agent Jethro Gibbs: Guess you haven't gotten the bill for the flowers yet.

Father and Son
12 May 2011 | by (Finland) – See all my reviews

As foreshadowed in the season opener, Anthony DiNozzo Sr. makes his return to the series. Naturally, Robert Wagner delivers in the role. Equally naturally, much hilarity ensues because of Tony's uneasy relationship with his father. As an added bonus, we get Bruce Boxleitner of Babylon 5 fame in a solid if not especially memorable "Navy Person Involved in the Case of the Week" role.

This is an assured, good, 7/10 episode, that doesn't quite earn that 8th star because, while it was about time for Ziva to don an evening gown again so that the title sequence makers can finally let go of *that* image from season 5 premiere, there really is nothing new here. The plot offers little surprise and the "One Night in Paris" mystery just keeps dragging on. It has been made clear time and time again that Tony and Ziva care about each other, but *conclusive* proof of whether they are protective of each other out of friendship or love has not been presented.

Character development between a show regular and a character for whom this is just the second appearance ever can hardly be considered significant. That said, the viewer is served enough humor, tension and action to be left feeling satisfied.
