Storyline

While an intruder starts to prowl through a home, the resident, a woman Marine, Sergeant Dempsey, who's a bomb-disposal tech, shoots him to death; Gibbs and company investigate; Tony notices an inconsistency, and Abby confirms it. A phone call warns of a bomb aboard a decommissioned destroyer on display at the Navy Yard; Dempsey and others check it out; the bomb explodes and injures her slightly. McGee runs into trouble with a cellphone; Fornell and another member of the FBI become involved. Abby gives the name of the intruder, and the gang discover his background; Gibbs says that he was not a burglar. McGee and Ziva meet Dempsey's brother. Dempsey drops out of sight, but the gang find her on a farm, working with a device and a former drug dealer. Everything works out. Tony almost becomes a poster boy. Written by DocRushing

Goofs

Ducky tells Jimmy about his memory of a criminal who removed his own fingerprints by soaking his fingers in pineapple juice. He erroneously says that the pineapple juice is pepsin. In reality, pepsin is an enzyme produced in the stomach. The pineapple enzyme is called bromelain, and the papaya enzyme is papain. See more »

Oops, Ducky got the wrong chemical.
5 October 2010 | by (Arkansas) – See all my reviews

The writers need a little better chemistry experience , , again.

The chemical in pineapples that was used in the past to remove fingerprints was papain (papaya proteinase), , not pectin. LOL, pectin is the part that thickens the liquid, papain is the part that causes ripening.

Papain can be bought at the store now as Adolph's Meat Tenderizer.

To actually remove the fingerprints, as described by Ducky, you would have to do more than prick the fingertips and put some in, , you would have to inject enough under the skin into the sub-dermis to destroy the layers that generate the whorls.

I LOVE the show, , but they really need to hire a chemist so Ducky can appear to ACTUALLY know what he is talking about.
