Tyler Perry was so angered by the parody of him in this episode that he contacted Turner Broadcasting executives and threatened to leave TBS. (TBS and Adult Swim are both owned by Turner.)
Aaron McGruder wanted this episode to be the season premiere but Turner executives were concerned about the potential controversy and it aired later in the season. In the original script, "Winston Jerome" was actually named Tyler Perry but executives ordered it changed. McGruder changed it to a similar name but was told to change it to something completely different.
Rodney Barnes, who co-wrote this scathing parody of Tyler Perry, previously wrote an episode of Perry's series Meet the Browns (2009).
The actor referred to as the "brown-skinned bald dude from Law & Order (1990)" is a parody of Steve Harris. Harris actually starred in The Practice (1997) and Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005).
