Not a bad little mystery/drama...
16 July 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I didn't realize that this was a made-for-TV movie. If I had known that this one premiered on Lifetime, I probably would have skipped it altogether, but I'm glad I didn't because it turned out surprisingly well.

Sofia (Higareda) returns home from Boston because she got news that her cousin, Eva (Haynes), has committed suicide. We see in flashbacks that Eva was more than a cousin to Sofia. She was her rock, her best friend. She helped her deal with her blindness and always treated her as equal, showing her that just because she doesn't have sight doesn't mean she can't be normal. No one in the family knows why Eva committed suicide. There's no suicide note and when Sofia talked to her on the phone the week before, she sounded normal and everything appeared to be fine. Sofia's father, Hector (Martinez), picks her up from the airport and takes her straight to Eva's house. Eva's mother, Marisol (Perez) and father, Rafael (Vazquez), offer to let Sofia stay there for the night. Alexa, (Jain), Eva's sister, is clearly unhappy that Sofia is around. The next day, Eva's boyfriend, Ethan (Murray), comes to visit, introduces himself to Sofia and causes a little stir with a photo album that makes Sofia's mind start to wander. When Eva's cell phone rings, Sofia answers it and learns that Eva had a doctor's appointment. What was Eva hiding? Why would Eva lie to Sofia about the photo? What other lies has she been telling? That's when the movie really begins, a little bit mystery, a little bit drama...

The movie may be slow-moving for some, but I thought it had a nice pace to it. It kept me interested the entire way through and I didn't get bored because I was really looking forward to some answers. All of the actors did nice work on the film, there was no real stand-outs (good or bad). I could have done without the romance aspect of the movie, it was highly predictable and added an air of cheesiness. All in all though, it's a good little movie that gets by more on it's performances than it's story, but it's uncovered in such a way that it will make you go back through your thoughts and re-think about why Eva did what she did.
