A Note Regarding Spoilers

sThe following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags have been used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.

Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) Cullen are devastated to learn that their daughter Renesmee has been reported to the Volturi as being an Immortal Child and that the Volturi want to destroy her. Consequently, they search the world for other vampires to witness Renesmee's goodness and to stand against the Volturi when they arrive to claim her.

Yes. Breaking Dawn is a novel by American author Stephenie Meyer. It is the last in a series of four books, collectively known as the Twilight Saga. In order, the books are Twilight (2005), New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2007), and Breaking Dawn (2008). The first three books have also been made into movies: Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010). The fourth book Breaking Dawn was subdivided into two movies. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 was released in 2011. The screenplay was written by American screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who also wrote the screenplays for the first four movies.

When wolf pack leader Sam Uley (Chaske Spencer) learns that Bella is dead because of the baby, he calls together the pack to kill it. Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) also returns to the house, intending to kill Renesmee but, after taking a look at her face, he drops to his knees, knowing that he has imprinted on her. When the pack arrives at the house, there is only Edward, Alice (Ashley Greene), and Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) to fight them until Carlisle (Peter Facinelli), Esme (Elizabeth Reaser), and Emmett (Kellan Lutz) arrive to help. Suddenly, Jake leaps from the house and orders everyone to stop. 'If you kill her, you kill me,' he challenges. The pack backs down, thanks to their most absolute law that says, if a wolf imprints on someone, they cannot hurt her. The next morning, the Cullens wash and groom Bella's lifeless body. In a view inside her, the venom can be seen coursing through her veins, destroying her red corpuscles. The bites on Bella's body slowly heal, her emaciated cheeks fill out, and she regains her healthy appearance. In the final scene, Bella's eyes snap open...they're bright red.

What is imprinting?

Biological imprinting is defined as the process by which an animal, usually just after birth or hatching, attaches itself to another animal of its own kind or to a substitute object identified as its parent. In the Twilight series, imprinting is an involuntary mechanism by which Quileute shape-shifters find their soul-mates. When one of the pack members imprints on someone, there is a one way bonding that happens. The pack member from that point on is committed to the protection and happiness of the person on whom they've imprinted. Jake explains it to Bella thusly: It's not like love at first sight, really. It's more like... gravity moves.... suddenly. It's not the earth holding you here anymore, she does.... You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, or a lover, or a friend.

An Immortal Child is one who was 'illegally' turned while young, making them frozen at the age they were turned and unable to keep their mouths shut about vampires. To allow them to live might expose the existence of vampires to the human world, so they are destroyed whenever their existence becomes known. However, Renesmee (or Nessie as she is sometimes called) is NOT an Immortal Child. She was not turned but was created by and born to a vampire and a human. In addition, she has a heartbeat and is growing (quite rapidly, in fact). There is no indication that she will be frozen at the age of a young child.

How does the movie end?

After giving Aro (Michael Sheen) a vision of what will happen if the Volturi fight against the Cullens, their witnesses, and the werewolves, Alice calls forth Nahuel (JD Pardo), a member of the Ticuna tribes of Brazil, who is half-vampire/half-human, just like Renesmee. Now 150 years old, he reached maturity at the age of seven and is able to live on either blood or human food. Realizing that there is no danger here, Aro finally backs down from his determination to fight, and the Volturi leave peacefully. The witnesses start returning to their homes after bidding goodbye to the Cullens. Edward admits to Jake that he's happy Renesmee has him, and Jake replies jokingly, 'Should I start calling you Dad?' Alice looks on and has a vision of the future in which Edward, Bella, Jake, and grown Renesmee are together, safe and happy. Finally alone, Bella and Edward sit together in a meadow, and Bella lets down her shield, allowing Edward to read her memories of all they've shared together so far (scenes from previous movies). The final scene is a picture of the last page of Breaking Dawn, reading: And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever. The movie closes with the entire cast list, including movie clips, of all the actors from the four-part series.
