A young man named Jason Fleming is exploring the caverns of rural Washington's Olympic Mountains with his girlfriend, Claire. When Claire is kidnapped by terrorists who think she's a spy, Jason follows them to their secret underground facility. Upon further investigation, he learns that the terrorists intend to incite a second Civil War in the United States. Jason must find a way to rescue Claire and find a way out of the complex, not knowing that the first shots of this new civil war have already been fired. Written by DaMaestro

While set in the same world as Orson Scott Card's "Empire" and "Hidden Empire" novels, the storyline of "Shadow Complex" runs in parallel with the novels and shares no characters in common. The game script was written by Peter David, and despite popular belief, the Empire franchise was created by Chair Entertainment, who licensed it to Card to write his novels based on their original game story - not the other way around.
