Storyline

The Home Secretary orders Harry to support a Russian plan to stop the Azakstan Freedom Front from obtaining a deadly biological weapon that was supposed to have been destroyed in the 1960s. The AFF supports independence from Russia and Lucas North works with the Russian security service, the FSB, in stopping them, though he doesn't necessarily agree with their shoot first approach to dealing with terrorists. One of the terrorists, Azis Aibek, manages to escape and make his way to London to see if he can get the British sample of the WMD. In an unprecedented move, the Home Secretary orders Harry to let and FSB officer onto the grid as they hunt Aibek down. Lucas meanwhile contacts Maya and promises to tell her why he never contacted her. Written by garykmcd

Quotes

Harry Pearce: It appears I have allowed us to be played by Moscow right from the start
Ruth Evershed: Well not right from the start Harry, that wasn't why you let Aibek go
Harry Pearce: But by allowing him to escape I did the Russians a favour and I have to admit, that was my mistake
Ruth Evershed: A mistake of judgement maybe... but not of decency... Sometimes you have to do what's necessary Harry

Working with the Russians.
11 October 2010 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

When Lucas goes on an operation with the Russian FSB to prevent terrorists gaining control of a deadly nerve agent all but one of the terrorists is summarily executed, that one escapes and it is assumed that he is headed to London as that is the only other known location of the nerve agent. Harry is ordered to let Russian agents work alongside his own to track down the terrorist before he can get his hands on the weapon. It is clear that the Russians have a different way of doing things and that they wish to get the weapon for themselves as their sample was destroyed in the original operation. The terrorist heads to the one man who knows where the toxin is stored and when he refuses to talk he heads to his daughter's house to force her to tell him… it is a race against time for the joint MI5/FSB team to get there before she dies.

While it is rather cliché to portray the Russians as less than trustworthy is isn't too bad in this series as just about everybody gets portrayed that way, even the good guys! The story itself was fairly gripping although it appeared to be a stand alone episode which did little to advance the plot concerning Lucas's true identity apart from showing him meeting his former girlfriend in the final scene.
