12 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paramount scored top-selling disc honors the week ended Sept. 25 with “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” while Walt Disney Studios snagged the top spot on the Blu-ray Disc-only sales chart with its 25th anniversary edition of “Beauty and the Beast.”

‘The Jungle Book’ Notches Second Week Atop Disc Charts

14 September 2016 4:23 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Walt Disney Studios’ “The Jungle Book,” a live-action/CGI remake of Disney’s 1967 animated classic with a worldwide gross of nearly $965 million, topped the national home video sales charts for the second consecutive week.

But the film received a strong challenge by a new release, Lionsgate’s “Now You See Me 2,” which bowed at No. 2 on the two Npd VideoScan sales charts for the week ended Sept. 11, one reflecting total disc sales and the other exclusively Blu-ray Disc.

The action adventure sequel, with U.S. theatrical earnings of more than $65 million (to more than $117 million for the 2013 original), sold 93% as many copies its first week in stores as “The Jungle Book” did in its second week of availability, Npd VideoScan Numbers show.

The film generated 51% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray disc, Npd VideoScan data shows, compared to 54% for “The Jungle Book.”

Apple iTunes Hikes Prices of Studios’ 10-Movie Packs to Up to $50

13 September 2016 1:04 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

After offering six different 10-movie bundles for a special one-day price of $9.99 on Monday, Apple’s iTunes is keeping them around for a while longer — but has raised the prices for each of the packs to between $35 and $50.

The promo, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Apple selling digital movies, drew participation from Warner Bros., Universal Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate. Disney and 20th Century Fox were the major studios that sat out the “10 Years of iTunes Movies” deal.

Still, while they’re not the one-dollar-per-movie bargain iTunes users in the U.S. were able to score Monday, the six bundles are still cheaper than if you were to buy the ten movies separately from Apple. For example, Warner’s $49.99 ten-pack would cost $152.90 for the HD titles if purchased individually.

For now, the 10-movie bundles look to be a limited-time promotion by Apple. That said, iTunes Movies routinely »

Apple iTunes Offers 10-Movie Bundles for $10, With Disney and 20th Century Fox Sitting Out Promo

12 September 2016 11:59 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Apple has teamed with five Hollywood studios for six different ten-movie bundles — priced at $9.99, or a buck per movie — in a one-day promotion celebrating the 10th anniversary of the tech giant selling digital movies.

Notably, neither Disney nor 20th Century Fox are among the studio partners for the “10 Years of iTunes Movies” deal. In Disney’s case, it operates its own digital-movie distribution service, Disney Movies Anywhere, which lets users download Mouse House titles and watch them on a variety of platforms.

The movie bundles became available early Monday and are available for only a 24-hour period, for iTunes users in the U.S.

The six different bundles are:

Warner Bros.: “The Judge,” “Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow,” “Pacific Rim,” “Magic Mike,” “Contagion,” “The Town,” “The Hangover,” “Sex and the City: The Movie,” “300,” “Superman ReturnsUniversal Studios: “Ride Along,” “Identity Thief,” “Rush,” “Snow White & the Huntsman,” “The Adjustment Bureau, »

Gal Gadot shares behind-the-scenes image of Wonder Woman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

With the character having made her big screen debut earlier this year in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot is set to reprise the role of Diana Prince next year for Wonder Woman’s very first solo movie, courtesy of director Patty Jenkins.

We saw a trailer for Wonder Woman during Comic-Con, but with a good few months to go before the marketing campaign gets underway proper, Gadot is helping to tick things over by releasing a series of behind-the-scenes images from Dawn of Justice, with the latest showing the Amazon Princess battling Mo-Cap Man Doomsday from the final battle of the Zack Snyder-directed blockbuster…

Now You See Me 3 still pressing ahead

7 September 2016 10:11 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Simon Brew Sep 8, 2016

Now You See Me 2 was a bigger hit than some gave it credit for - and here's an update on Now You See Me 3...

Now You See Me 2 may have been one of the movies that struggled at the Us box office over the summer, taking $65m on release, a number that was well down on the original. However, worldwide box office more than came to the rescue, with 80% of the movie’s take coming from outside America. In all, the movie grossed $328m, just a little off the number of the original, and that means Lionsgate is pressing ahead with its plan for Now You See Me 3.

Jon M Chu has already been confirmed as the man to direct the third instalment, having taken over for the second. And he’s given Collider an update on the movie.

“We’re writing it right now”, he told the site. »

Mel Gibson isn’t a fan of superhero movies, says Batman v Superman is “a piece of shit”

7 September 2016 2:28 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite being linked to a few superhero roles in his career – most notably Batman (in the 1989 movie) and Wolverine (check out some concept art here) – it seems that Mel Gibson isn’t a fan of comic book movies, with the actor and filmmaker taking the opportunity to slam the genre – and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in particular – during an interview with Deadline following the premiere of Hacksaw Ridge at the Venice Film Festival.

“I look at them and scratch my head,” said Gibson when asked about the current state of Hollywood blockbusters. ” I’m really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. I don’t know. Maybe they do cost that much. I don’t know. It seems to me that you could do it for less. »

Margot Kidder is not a fan of Amy Adams’ Lois Lane in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

1 September 2016 4:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’ve heard from a lot of people with their thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but British website HeyUGuys got the chance to speak with the original Lois Lane Margot Kidder (who played the character in Superman: The Motion Picture) – and she is not a fan of Amy Adams’ role in the movie.

“They took one of the best American actresses around, Amy Adams, and didn’t give her anything to do!” Kidder said. “I mean, how stupid is that? They made her what used to be – the girlfriend – which kind of ended in the ’60s with women’s rights.”

In Adams’ defense, most of her scenes are in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – The Ultimate Edition.

The CW DC Universe has seen many stars from previous DC films appear in their shows, but would Kidder like to be added to the list?

“Yeah, sure. »

‘Warcraft’ Is Better Than ‘Finding Dory’ and Other Terrifying Lessons of the Chinese Box Office

25 August 2016 12:09 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Consider this: China is why “Warcraft” will have a sequel. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg’s last three films didn’t even see a Chinese release.

This isn’t box-office trivia. China could soon be Hollywood’s biggest market, and understanding what works there will become central to production strategies. The biggest bucks will go to what’s closest to one size fits all. Movies that appeal primarily to domestic audiences will have lower budgets.

To get a sense of what that might mean, here are the top 20 Us releases in China this year. They’re ranked by their Chinese box-office gross, followed by numbers that compare their placement to the films’ domestic and total international rankings.

Kevin Conroy “isn’t particularly comfortable” with The Dark Knight killing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

13 August 2016 3:57 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although Ben Affleck managed to win over a lot of his critics with his role as The Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, one aspect of the character that didn’t quite sit right with some fans was the fact that Batman racked up a body count that would shame many of the villains in his Rogues Gallery.

During an interview with IGN, legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy shared his thoughts on the latest big screen incarnation of The Dark Knight, and while he praised Affleck’s performance, he also stated that he “isn’t particularly comfortable” with Batman being a killer.

“Personally I love the fact that Batman – in the stories I’ve done, and the way he’s been rendered by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, the people I’ve worked with most closely – he never kills anybody. He doesn’t cross that line. »

Dave Franco interview: Nerve, Bowfinger, Statham, Jump Street

The co-star of Nerve on his new film, auditioning for 21 Jump Street, Bowfinger, Jason Statham and people shouting Nancy Drew...

Nerve sees Dave Franco, a man who’s built up plaudits for supporting roles in the likes of 21 Jump Street, Now You See Me and Bad Neighbours, jump above the title. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish), the film lands in UK cinemas this weekend, and ahead of that, Franco headed to Britain. We caught up with him in London, and here’s what happened…

I’m a bit perturbed. Coming into the interview, I read around a bit to see what everyone else has been asking you, to try and make sure I don’t ask you all the same questions you’ve been asked before…

I like that!

Well, I’ll still ask you them, I wouldn’t get carried away.

Superman has established himself as a shining beacon of hope for humanity. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he faces off against Batman, the dark hero of the DC Comics universe. We’ve highlighted the noble, classically heroic characteristics of Superman, in striking contrast with Batman’s complex dark aspect. The chest and cape utilize flexible materials, creating a wide range of motion. Superman’s iconic take-off and landing poses are easily recreated. We’ve paid special attention to the fine details, keeping close accuracy to the design of the character in the film, such as the small Kryptonian insignia etched into the waist of his suit. »
