Joker and Harley Quinn teased in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Super Bowl spot

8 February 2016 1:22 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

DC and Turkish Airlines had two Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice commercials placed in last night’s Superbowl, announcing the airline’s new routes to Metropolis and Gotham.

In the latter, amongst shots of Bruce Wayne discussing rebuilding his beloved Gotham after the events of Man of Steel, the cityscape twice shows a building called Ace Chemicals.

Ace Chemicals is known as one of The Joker’s most prominent origin stories (definitively told in Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke). There, a stand-up comedian with no name is dressed up as the infamous gangster ‘Red Hood’. He falls into a vat of chemicals after a showdown with a young Batman, permanently bleaching his skin white, and birthing The Joker.

A very similar scene is shown in the most recent Suicide Squad trailer, where Dr. Harleen Quinzel (who later becomes The Joker’s lover and partner-in-crime Harley Quinn) is lifted »

Casting Walking Dead characters in Batman – watch the first episode of Flickering Myth’s Jump Cut

7 February 2016 2:44 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Two actors from the hit AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead are in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – the lovely Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays super bad guy Negan. They will be Martha and Dr. Thomas Wayne respectively, Bruce Wayne’s mum and dad.

It got me thinking: how would the characters they play in The Walking Dead, and the other principle cast, best translate into the Batman mythology? And, as the second half of The Walking Dead beings this Sunday, why not devote the first episode of Flickering Myth’s new weekly YouTube show Jump Cut to the question? You can watch the video below, or, if you fancy text-based fantasy casting scenarios, the transcript is just beneath that.

First, the obvious one. Rick Grimes, the main man in Walking Dead, would be Bruce Wayne Batman. Apart from both being their respective universes’ central characters, »

Zack Snyder on the Justice League’s involvement in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

5 February 2016 3:08 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

As well as bringing DC’s two biggest icons together on the big screen for the very first time, Warner Bros.Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will also pave the way for the two-part Justice League movie by featuring Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash, and director Zack Snyder has been discussing the role they’ll play during an interview with Hall of Justice.

“As far as the other Justice League characters go, they play a very small role,” states Snyder. “It’s really just a whisper they exist. Except for Wonder Woman, we see her really well. But really, the movie is about Batman and Superman. And we really take time with them and we really drill down on the why of them and what they stand for and their beliefs and them as characters. That’s pretty much the why of the movie. But again as I said, »

Zack Snyder on Man of Steel: “If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman”

5 February 2016 12:22 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite the fact the movie is almost three years old, Zack Snyder is still coming under fire from some fans for his handling of Superman in the 2013 reboot Man of Steel.

Appearing on the Hall of Justice podcast to promote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder has once again addressed complaints about the film, stating that comic book fans who know the true canon of the Man of Steel know he didn’t change Superman.

“I was pretty ready for it,” said Snyder with regards to the backlash. “I knew that we were really updating a beloved character. I don’t think ‘changing him’ — People are always like ‘you changed Superman.’ If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you’re a fan of the old movies, »

"Star Wars" Blamed For "Mockingjay" Drop

5 February 2016 9:02 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

It is not unexpected that investors would take their punishment out on Lionsgate now that its "Hunger Games" cash cow is over, but no-one expected it to be this fast.

As part of its quarterly earnings call with Wall Street analysts this morning, the subject of the underperformance of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" came up. That film grossed $653 million - the lowest grosser in the franchise to date and off from Lionsgate's own estimates - the studio saying the film "underperformed their profit margins by over $100 million".

Combined with duds like "Mortdecai" and the "Point Break" remake, Wall Street reacted quickly and shares in the studio quickly dropped 32% in trading this morning. Blame for the underperformance was put on terrorist attacks in Europe and the box office overperformance of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with the latter "hitting our numbers by somewhere between $50M and $100M." The film's weak »

Scoot McNairy rumoured to be another villain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

2 February 2016 12:27 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite the film coming out in under two months, rumours and speculation are still running rampant for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, particularly when it comes to the bad guys. We’ve heard potential rumours of Bizarro showing up in the movie via some Lego sets (and a seemingly concrete confirmation) and there was a rumour a while back that villains such as KGBeast would show up at some point. We already know that Lex Luthor and Doomsday are in the anticipated team-up, but a new rumour suggests that another villain will be on the big screen.

It is still unknown who Scoot McNairy will be playing in the movie – with speculation saying he’s Jimmy Olsen, Metallo and even Green Lantern – but Latino-Review say they’ve got the inside scoop. According to the website, McNairy is playing an anonymous pawn in Lex Luthor’s plan, and was left »
