The Clanton's are surprised when Billy Clanton arrives home from school in San Antonio. His mother's wish was that Billy be different from the other Clantons by finishing school and going to college. When she sees Billy, Emma tries to ensure Old Man Clanton follows through on mama's desire. Billy with the urging of Phin and Ike has other ideas. He shows his older brothers he is a good shot at a moving target proving he learned something at the military academy. In Tombstone Earp drops off his Buntline with Mr. Spangenberg the gunsmith for repairs who tells him he can pick it up in an hour. Billy needing clothes rides into Tombstone to buy them plus a gift for Emma. He stops in the gunsmith's shop to pick up a gun. While Spangenberg is distracted, he picks up the repaired Buntline and decides to steal it. When Earp learns it is stolen, he is able to determine Billy stole it.
