The lyrics of rampant plastic consumerism in an increasingly synthetic culture were pertinent to that decade and a prelude to the Thatcherite years to come,however, in the trauma of the years post 9/11 retail therapy reached ridiculous new heights and whilst the questioning of what was real and what was fake became paramount to some ,for the majority it was a cue to slip into further obedient somnolence.
