Trivia:
Peter DeSève designed a number of animals for the film that never made it to the final cut: eohippus (prehistoric horses), a large horselike animal that Sid would have ridden, a giant squid and a number of prehistoric sharks that would have nearly eaten Granny in the scene in which she takes a bath in the ocean.See more »
Goofs:
Continuity: Many of the pirates' weapons switch places and hands during the land bridge trap sequence. Firstly, Gupta, on Gutt's order, gives his dagger to Louis, who leaves it behind when he digs under the ice. When Gupta and Flynn chase Sid and Granny to the ship's underbelly shortly after, he has Gutt's dagger instead, which Gutt dropped at the ship's front when Louis smashed ice on his foot, and Flynn, who previously possessed a skull sword, has Raz's spear, which vanished from her grasp inexplicably after Manny broke free. Then, as Gupta and Flynn flee the ship's underbelly, then leave their weapons behind. As we cut back to the ship's topside, Raz has her spear back. Gutt is initially weaponless, but has his dagger back at the pirates corner Manny, Diego, Shira, Crash and Eddie. Gutt also has his original dagger back, and Flynn has his skull sword back. Then, in the shot where Precious blasts Gupta, Razz and Flynn, Gupta, Flynn and Gutt are all unarmed, while Raz's spear in knocked overboard with her. When Peaches cuts Ellie free shortly after, she does so with Gupta's dagger, tossing it away from the ship's front after. Finally, when the floe Manny and Gutt are on is raised by the seabed rock, the floe is initially weaponless, but gains Raz's spear, Gupta's dagger, Flynn's skull sword, and another sword knocked from Raz's punch earlier, all of which were in different locations. All four weapons are either lost overboard or broken during Manny and Gutt's fight.See more »
Quotes:
[first lines]
Manny:[upon hearing an earthquake] What, what was that? Ellie, did you hear that?
Ellie:I heard it, Manny; whatever it is, it's miles away.
Manny:Peaches, you all right? Where is she, no teenager is ever up early.

FAQ

Is there any extra scene during or after the end credits?
The little dance that the leader of the hamster-looking fellows does after applying the Braveheart face paint reminded me a lot of the New Zealand All Black's pregame dance from Invictus, which was (according to the film) based on Maori war rituals. Was this deliberate, and were the Maori the inspiration?

Fun for the whole family., 1 July 2012
Author: Troy_Campbell from Sydney, Australia

Although not regarded in the same league as the Pixar and Disney output, the initial three Ice Age instalments collected over $2bn at the worldwide box office. (Rather surprisingly, that's $100m more than the Toy Story trilogy earned.) Posting figures as huge as that means we get treated to another adventure with mammoth Manny (Ray Romano), sabre-tooth tiger Diego (Denis Leary) and silly sloth Sid (John Leguizamo); this time with pirates. Like each episode before it, Ice Age 4 prides itself in offering up goofy laughs and goofier characters, with the ragtag bunch of pirates – led by Peter Dinklage's droll Captain Gutt and assisted by Nick Frost's uproarious elephant seal Flynn – the source of much joy. The old gang don't dissatisfy either: Sid is the standout as usual but Diego gets more laughs than normal and Scrat's little journey is ever-amusing. The serious Manny is still, well, the serious Manny, but you can't win them all. The bucket load of action remains too, however nothing here tops the dinosaur rumbling in part three. Continental Drift is gratifying escapism for the whole family that, despite being the fourth outing for these prehistoric creatures, shows few signs of letting up.
