I liked Paranormal Entity. I even liked it a little bit more than Paranormal Activity but ended up rating both about the same because a rip-off is still a rip-off, no matter how much fun it turns out to be.
This movie, Gacy House, was released here in the UK as Paranormal Entity 2 but has no continuity link to the first movie. It's simply another film that mixes together various "found footage" from a house that seems to have things that go bump in the night. This time around the events are being recorded by a team of paranormal investigators who think that it's a good idea to poke around in the house where John Wayne Gacy lived. Of course, it's not a good idea.
While it's not as good as Paranormal Entity this movie does provide some decent moments of spooky atmosphere and goosebump-raising thrills. The acting may not be up to any gold standard but there are one or two people doing well (Matthew Temple as Robby Williams is probably the best of the lot) while the others try their hardest.
Anthony Fankhauser is the man making the magic happen and he does okay. The film suffers from the same failing as many other movies from The Asylum - the repetition of dialogue and/or arguments - and it keeps things perhaps a bit too low-key for the first half but the ending delivers a decent number of frights, mixed in with a fair bit of implausibility.
If you liked Paranormal Entity then you should like this one, just not quite as much.
