Wounded in Afghanistan while in the Army, Dr. John Watson returns to contemporary London and, through a mutual acquaintance, becomes a flatmate at Mrs. Hudson's 221B Baker Street apartment with brilliant if eccentric private investigator Sherlock Holmes. There have been three identical apparent suicides, and Inspector Lestrade asks for Sherlock's intervention over the fourth, the suspicious death of Jennifer Wilson. As she lay dying she wrote 'Rache' upon the floor and Sherlock deduces that this is not just the incomplete name of her stillborn daughter "Rachel" of many years earlier but the password of her mobile phone. This leads Sherlock to confront a terminally ill serial killer who slays people, in part, to show superiority over the rest of society, and who is determined to make Sherlock his next victim. Did You Know?

When John first meets Mycroft and the two are talking, Mycroft says "Most people blunder around this city and all they see are streets and shops and cars." This mirrors a line from the Doctor Who episode "The End of the World: "You think it'll last forever. The streets and cars and concrete." Both Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss (creators of Sherlock) are writers on Doctor Who. See more »

When Sherlock and John see the Taxi from the restaurant, supposedly in Northumberland Road, they run outside to chase the taxi up a road directly opposite the restaurant. When Sherlock then imagines the route the taxi will take the map starts on Wardour Street (not Northumberland Road) and there is no road directly opposite the start point as there should be. Ella: How's your blog going?
Dr John Watson: Yeah, good. Very good.
Ella: You haven't written a word, have you?
Dr John Watson: You just wrote, "still has trust issues".
Ella: And you read my writing upside down. You see what I mean? John, you're a soldier. It's going to take you a while to adjust to civilian life. And writing a blog about everything that happens to you will honestly help you.
Dr John Watson: Nothing happens to me.

Dr. Whats on ;)
6 November 2015 | by (Zimbabwe) – See all my reviews

As a pilot episode, I would consider it to be GOOD. It gave a fine impression of the situation and had great storyline with very interesting persons. Even though the episode was a bit messy, we were given a good view of the series. The actors were acting amazing, even though I was a bit disappointed with the acting from Martin Freeman. Benedict Cumberbatch on the other hand performed exceptionally good.

Sherlock Holmes' arrogance reflects his brilliant, and scary, mind. This is especially to be seen when he shows up at the scene of the crime. I am pretty sure he is an autist in the way he is acting, among others because he always outsmarts the police.
