If MTV renews "Awkward" for a fourth season, it will do so without the series' creator, Lauren Iungerich.
The cable channel and Iungerich have parted ways in what was called a mutual decision. MTV will now look for a new showrunner for the high-school comedy, which is finishing up production on Season 3 (the back half of which will air in the fall).
"'Awkward' is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show," MTV head Susanne Daniels tells Deadline. "We wish her the best in her new ventures."
Iungerich leaving "Awkward" comes a couple of months after she exited "Hot Mess," a pilot she did for MTV (it did not go to series). According to Deadline, her departure from "Awkward" was motivated by both professional and personal reasons.
"Awkward" fans, what do you make of the news? Will the show be the same without Iungerich? »

It is one season and out for Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, MTV‘s half-hour series starring rising young comedian Bo Burnham, who tweeted about the show’s demise yesterday. “We are huge fans of Bo Burnham and the entire creative and talented team behind Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous,” MTV said in a statement. “After careful consideration of many factors, we have ultimately decided not to move forward with an additional season of the series. We wish Bo, the cast and the entire production crew the very best.” Zach Stone, developed and greenlighted by the previous MTV regime, launched with little fanfare and modest ratings on May 2 in the 10:30 Pm slot and was later shifted to 11 Pm, dwindling to 300,000 viewers. It is quietly ending its run this week with its final three originals, two airing on Saturday. MTV has struggled to launch lasting scripted series beyond Teen Wolf and Awkward, »

After "Awkward" Season 3, the beloved, quirky MTV dramedy will never be the same.
The show's creator Lauren Iungerich is stepping down as showrunner after "Awkward's" current third season, the second half of which will debut in October. In a statement, MTV confirmed Iungerich's departure, calling the split "mutual."
“'Awkward' is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show. We wish her the best in her new ventures," Susanne Daniels, president of programming at MTV, said in a statement.

Three months ago, she exited her buzzy MTV comedy pilot "Hot Mess" and ultimately, the network decided to not go forward with the show. Awkward. creator and showrunner Lauren Iungerich has announced she’ll be leaving the MTV series tomorrow, when it wraps production on season three. Iungerich’s departure isn’t quite as dramatic as what Jenna did to Matty a couple of weeks ago (that bitch!), with both Iungerich and the network saying the decision is mutual. According to Deadline, Iungerich’s decision to leave was “a difficult one,” and based on “a combination of work and personal reasons.” It’s probably worth noting here that the move comes just three months after Iungerich left yet another one of her MTV projects »

Let me begin by saying that while this Father’s Day-inspired list might not contain the best dads on TV — cheaters and murderers abound — it certainly features the hottest. Awkward., Season 3, Episode 10: “Redefining Jenna”
Written by Lauren Iungerich
Directed by Lauren Iungerich
Airs Tuesdays at 10 Pm on MTV
In many ways, throughout Awkward.’s run, Jenna has been mature beyond her years, a maturity that has only been pushed farther by the circumstances she has faced. With things going well for her, her maturity has slowly begun to manifest itself as she’s discovered an affinity for people and interests outside her social circle. This episode dives further into the idea that Jenna’s recent discomfort with her life is the result of her changing and becoming a new person, delivering a poignant episode to close out the first half of the third season.
The growing connection between Jenna and Collin was fascinating to observe this week. In many ways, Collin is less of a person, and seemingly more of a personification of Jenna’s changing »

From the minute he walked in, you knew Collin was trouble. The new kid in school had a swagger that instantly caught Jenna's eye and spoke to her intellectual side in a way Matty simply couldn't (also, he was smoking hot). But not even Taylor Swift could have anticipated how Jenna's crush would end up crushing fans in the closing seconds of last night's finale when she kissed Collin and kept it from Matty.
Yes, thanks to a cruelly clever twerking of time, Awkward spared Matty the sight of his Gf smooching another and left the audience responsible for branding Jenna with a scarlet letter. Yet, despite our collective adoration of Matty McKibben, I totally understand why Jenna strayed (I don't, however, support her tactics) -- and much of that has to do with the charisma actor Nolan Funk brings to the role of Collin. I caught up with him to talk about last night's big reveal »

The official ballots for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards are now available online, and while they won't tell us who's going to be nominated, they can tell us who won't be.
We scoured the ballots to dig up the notable omissions (if you were hoping for an Arya Stark nomination, better luck next year) and surprising inclusions (go get your directing nomination, Jennifer Love Hewitt!).
Where's "Bunheads"?
Every ABC Family original series (including "The Lying Game," "Baby Daddy" and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager") is submitted for consideration as either Outstanding Comedy or Outstanding Drama except for the network's most outstanding show: "Bunheads." Huh?
Star Sutton Foster submitted herself in the Comedy Actress category, but "Bunheads" is otherwise Mia from the ballots (even in technical categories like casting, main title design and costume design).
Other shows completely out of contention are more understandable, though Starz's canceled "Boss" earned enough »

Last night's Awkward strained credulity on two fronts. One, there's just no way Jenna would cheat on Matty. (Who would cheat on that handsome doofus? No one.) But more egregiously, this is not what text messages look like.Come on, Awkward! You're on MTV! You're supposed to be hip and with it. It's one thing when The Killing gets tech wrong, but you're a show about a blog-happy teen. This is unacceptable. Obviously some of the aesthetic fudging is for legibility's sake. And if that's the case, go Sherlock– or House of Cards–style and just show the message right on the screen. Problem solved. »
