Interview: Marlon Wayans Talks Career, Comedy Franchises & Studying to Play Richard Pryor ('Haunted House 2' Opens Today)

19 hours ago | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

With A Haunted House 2, Marlon Wayans takes his brand of comedy to the same edgy extremes as the original. This film sees his character Malcolm moving into yet another demon-possessed house with a new family (Jaime Pressly, Awkward’s Ashley Rickards, and Steele Stebbins), for a series of shenanigans spoofing horror movies like The Conjuring and Insidious, and again involving Wayans in an extended sex scene with an inanimate object (this time, a creepy-looking doll named Abigail). The movie was reportedly made at the insistence of the studio, who Wayans says "chased us down" to make a sequel after the success of the first film. The final product is largely a vehicle for Wayans' »

Awkward., Ep 4.01: “No Woman Is an Island” highlights the pressures of senior year

Ashley Rickards

Awkward., Season 4, Episode 01: “No Woman Is an Island”

Written by Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini

Directed by Peter Lauer

Airs Tuesdays at 10 Pm on MTV

The ending of the third season of Awkward. saw Jenna end up single, yet on her way towards personal happiness following a year of turmoil. Her lack of a partner made her unique amongst her friends, as Jake and Tamara had moved past their first major fight, and Matty and Bailey were beginning a new relationship, with Ming giving up the Asian mafia for Fred. The season opener this week brings the stress of senior year down on everyone as Jenna adjusts to a level of irrelevance that comes at a bad time, in an enjoyable episode that sets up some promising stories.

Jenna’s anonymity becoming a detriment to her is an interesting development. For much of the show’s run, »

Yahoo’s First TV-Length Original Series May Come From ‘Girls’ Writer

15 April 2014 10:04 AM, PDT | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

A week ago, the Wall Street Journal reported Yahoo's plan to greenlight big-budget, TV-length original series on par with those distributed by Netflix and Amazon. Variety is now reporting on one of the series on Yahoo's "shortlist": It's called 34 and Pregnant, and helmed by Girls writer Lesley Arfin. 34 and Pregnant is a "mom-com" centered around an expecting protagonist. Arfin is herself 35, though it's unclear how biographical--if at all--her series would be. Before it came under Yahoo's consideration, the series was in the works as a digital-only project on HBO Go. Arfin may not be a household name, but she has worked on several critically-acclaimed comedies. In addition to a pair of writing credits on Girls, she has also penned an episode of Golden Globe winner Brooklyn Nine-Nine and has worked as a story editor on Awkward, MTV's critically-acclaimed teen dramedy. Her resume suggests that 34 and Pregnant could be the »

‘Awkward’ Debuts Extended Season Four Teaser

15 April 2014 9:58 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Some things never change … or do they?

MTV has released a teaser for the season-four premiere of teen dramedy “Awkward,” and it looks like Jenna (Ashley Rickards) has found the redemption she needed from her season-three downward spiral. The newfound transformation finds her way back in Matty McKibben’s (Beau Mirchoff) arms … which might not be the best decision.

Meanwhile, Jenna’s crew continues to deal with the pitfalls of high school, but the stakes are higher this season. It’s senior year and college is on the horizon. With adulthood and new college boys acting as the light at the end of the tunnel, Jenna faces more life-questioning debates.

Jenna’s friend Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed), whose relationship with Jake (Brett Davern) hit a bump in the road last season, might also face some love troubles. Of course, she deals with it in the only way Tamara would … by “catfishing” Jake. »

'Awkward' Season 4 trailer: Senior year woes include low grades, college plans and boy drama (of course)

11 March 2014 8:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

It's senior year on "Awkward," and Jenna's got a whole lot more than just high school graduation on her mind.

MTV just dropped the trailer for Season 4 of the critically-loved dramedy starring Ashley Rickards, and it's filled with shocking developments for all our favorite Palos Hills High students. Like how on the very first day back at school, someone hacks into the school database and leaks the class rankings.

While that alone is enough to start a senior-on-senior battle for the top spot, Jenna is forced to confront the unfortunate consequence of her "sanity sabbatical" during junior year -- a shockingly low rank that jeopardizes her college chances. Oops. Looks like the consequences from last season aren't over yet.

As if that wasn't enough for Jenna to deal with, she's also starting up a friends-with-benefits relationship with her ex, Matty! Flashback to Season 1 when Matty wanted to keep his relationship »

'Awkward' Season 4 scoop: New showrunners reveal Ming, Collin not returning and more

11 March 2014 9:30 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Here's a little good news/bad news situation regarding "Awkward." When Season 4 debuts, two faces won't be returning: Ming and Collin.

When the new "Awkward" showrunners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler spoke to Buzzfeed for the first time since taking over the MTV critical darling from creator Lauren Iungerich (who left the series in June), they revealed the casting change-up, of which one-half was deeply upsetting.

"Jessica Lu [who plays Ming] is not returning," Alberghini says. "She wanted to move on." Ming was Jenna's Bff, and for a brief time was the head of the Asian Mafia, a hilarious and quirky B story arc that will also not be returning in the new season. Her absence will definitely be missed, as she's been a major part of the series since day one.

While the new showrunners didn't explain why Nolan Funk will also be Mia for the new season, it's not hard to »

The Arsenio Hall Show has been renewed for a second season.

Justin Hartley has joined the cast of the ABC comedy pilot Damaged Goods. The pilot, from Awkward. creator Lauren Iungerich, is a relationship comedy about two damaged men and two damaged women with Hartley playing a man who can’t handle his girlfriend getting the promotion he was pursuing. I think I prefer to see him playing a guy who is dating an tech billionaire with a vengeful pal.

In a sadly unsurprising development, the Biography channel is revamping into Fyi Network, which will feature upscale lifestyle programming.
