Set to premiere on September 30, Happyland stars Bianca Santos (of The Fosters) as Lucy, a cynical employee and daughter to the park’s perfect princess Elena (Camille Guaty). Desperate to escape the park’s brand of manufactured happiness, Lucy rethinks her desire to flee after the arrival of a new staff member—the son (Awkward’s Shane Harper »

While Eva and Jenna started out on friendly terms, Eva’s actions and Jenna’s deduction in last week’s episode firmly established them as antagonists, putting Jenna and Sadie on the same side against Matty’s new girlfriend. With Jenna setting the two up following her entrance into a new relationship, Eva’s attack on her further solidified the devious nature she first displayed towards Sadie. The midseason finale this week further escalates the fight between Matty’s girlfriend and his two friends, in an episode that manages to be a solid temporary sendoff for the show, »

Over the past few weeks, a new relationship combined with continuing senior year woes have left Jenna eager to leave high school behind and go to college. “Awkward.” Gays Read Basic

29 May 2014 8:20 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Recurring gays Theo (Evan Crooks) and Cole (Monty Geer) pop up on MTV’s Awkward. now and then to throw some shade on the overactive personalities at their high school. In the video below, the pair stamp their classmates as either “Basic” or “Awesome” based on their locker contents.

Theo and Cole are those hipster gays that, rather than having story arcs themselves, usually just comment on the world around them without ever being connected to it. In fact, I think they’ve had more screen time in Awkward. web videos like the one above than on the show itself.

Too bad, because these two are worth exploring as characters. Just wish they had more to do than read people from the sidelines.

At the beginning of senior year, it was clear that Tamara had a plan for how things would go, a plan that unexpectedly hit a snag when Jake broke up with her. It’s been increasingly clear that the breakup rattled Tamara, who has subsequently attempted to re-engage Jake via catfishing. This week’s episode sees the former’s deception come to light, in an enjoyable outing that pushes a number of characters forward.

Having Tamara’s catfishing get exposed is a fascinating aspect of this week’s episode. Tamara’s near-obsessive desire to win Jake back has clearly had an effect on her other professional duties over the past few episodes, and it’s the possibility of reconciling with Jake that has kept her going. »

One of the looming aspects of senior year has been the imminent arrival of college, a prospect that has affected Jenna and Tamara in different ways.
