Awkward., Season 5, Episode 01, “Prank Amateurs”

Written by Mike Chessler

Directed by Peter Lauer

Airs Mondays at 9 pm Et on MTV

Season four of Awkward. saw Jenna wrestle with a low school ranking and possibly losing out on going to college. While both situations resolved themselves, she was still left with trying to resolve her feelings about Matty, especially after discovering the latter was willing to wait with Gabby when he hadn’t been so patient with Jenna herself. With the show entering its final season, the fifth season premiere stumbles massively with regards to Jenna, but nonetheless holds some promise for an enticing season that would serve as a good sendoff for the series as a whole.

One of the major issues with the season premiere is Jenna’s focus on Matty. While this is not uncharacteristic of Awkward., Jenna’s previous romantic flings, with Matty or others, have always »

Awkward Season 5 Review

24 August 2015 7:52 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

Five seasons and four years later, and there’s a sort of quiet ease into which the MTV sitcom template-setter that is Awkward presents its fifth year: not with a senior-year bang, but with a whimper as bittersweet and disappointing as the gang’s handful of failed pranks dotted throughout the premiere. Its stars still shine and its drama still crackles with a heightened hilarity that only a show with this high level of acronyms-to-actual words could muster, but its lost some of its acerbic spark that surprised everyone back in 2011.

Jenna and co. aren’t as ribald and breezingly candid, the writing feels more like an interpretation of Awkward than actually Awkward, and the decision to continue last year’s most interminable plots instead of just tying them up in the prologue and catapulting the team into something new, all lends the »

The Stars of "Weird Science" -- See What They Look Like 30 Years Later!

2 August 2015 6:00 AM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

30 years ago today, two geeks from Shermer, Illinois created Lisa, the perfect woman, with a little computer know-how. That's right, "Weird Science" came out exactly three decades ago and was the third film John Hughes stepped behind the camera for as director, following "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles." The flick was also the fourth time Hughes had worked with star Anthony Michael Hall, who appeared in both of the aforementioned films, as well as the Hughes-penned "Vacation." Fun fact: Hall reportedly chose this flick over doing a "Vacation" sequel -- thus starting a franchise tradition of switching the actors playing the Griswold children each film. Joining Hall were Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Kelly LeBrock, a former model who turned her sights towards acting. "Weird Science" went on to become a cult classic and spawned a USA series of the same name, with Vanessa Angel taking over the role of Lisa. »

The Kids of National Lampoon's 'Vacation' Films -- Where Are They Now?!

28 July 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

It's hard to believe it's been more than 20 years since we first met the Griswolds in National Lampoon's "Vacation." The 1983 original followed Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, an overly enthusiastic dad who just wants to have a fun family trip to Wally World, a California amusement park. Unfortunately, it all goes to hell as they encounter a series of misadventures along the journey. The film sparked a number of sequels, including "European Vacation," "Christmas Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation." Fast forward to 2015, as the latest installment in the hilarious franchise, "Vacation," his theaters today. The new film focuses on a fully-grown (and once again recast) Rusty Griswold, as he takes his own family on a disastrous getaway. Ed Helms is taking over the lead role, Christina Applegate plays his wife and Leslie Mann fills the role of sister Audrey.  Before we welcome the Griswolds back to the big screen, we're taking »

'Stanford Prison Experiment' director still hasn't heard from the original subjects yet

You'll be kicking yourself if you don't see "The Stanford Prison Experiment" in theaters.  Seriously.  And, no, I'm not just saying that because I happen to know director Kyle Patrick Alvarez socially or that it's a Sundance Jury Award-winning movie or that it depicts one of the most shocking events to occur at one of America's greatest Universities over the past fifty years.* The real reason is that besides the questions it raises about the human condition and our ability to descend to abject cruelty, "Stanford" features a once in a life time cast that will dominate Hollywood for the next 15 to 20 years.* *It also has earned strong reviews to date including a 71 grade on Metacritic and 78% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Based on true events, the new drama chronicles the 1971 psychological experiment that found Stanford University students sorted into the roles of prison guard or a generic prisoner.  In theory, »
