Storyline

"Awkward" is about the specific incidents in our formative years that define us -sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst. The show centers around fifteen-year-old Jenna Hamilton, who, like many, feels invisible to her peers and desperately wants to find her place--which is hard to do in a day and age where fitting in means standing out. Unfortunately, Jenna's visibility comes on the heels of an accident that gives her a not-so-fun stigma. And while the stigma of her accident could be the curse of her life, Jenna's determined to make it her life's blessing. Written by Lauren Iungerich

Trivia

The high school on the show is called "Palos Hills High School" (Home of the Titans, colors are blue/gold). Until 1991, there were 3 high schools in Palos Verdes - Miraleste High School (Home of the Marauders, colors were maroon/gold), Palos Verdes High School (Home of the Sea Kings, colors were black/red) and Rolling Hills High School (Home of the Titans, colors were blue/gold). Due to district closures, the 3 high schools were consolidated into one high school, located on the Rolling Hills High School campus. The new school was renamed Palos Verdes Peninsula High School (home of the Panthers, colors are black/gold). In 2002, climbing enrollments and overcrowding at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School led the district to reopen Palos Verdes High School. The show uses the mascot (Titans) and colors (Blue/Gold) of the former Rolling Hills High School. See more »

Great show
10 August 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This show is amazing and while the writing may be a bit over the top, it addresses real life issues not only teens face, but adults as well with a great message. The lead, Ashley Rickards, brings a realism and unique style to the show that makes us all love Jenna and relate to her struggles.

The supporting actors all work great together. The two male leads balance each other well. Each bring depth to their characters and present Jenna with two very different alternatives (physical vs. intellectual attraction). We all are waiting to see if she recognizes this and if so, how will she deal with it.

The rest of the supporting staff, while over the top at times with their delivery and energy, do bring good humor and balance to the show and story line.

Each show ends with me wanting to know more. MTV has finally gotten it right. I LOVE it.
