New ‘Pacific Rim’ Still Features Idris Elba in Command

30 December 2012 10:15 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Love it or hate it, it seems everyone has an opinion when it comes to Pacific Rim, the monsters versus robots adventure hitting theaters next summer from director Guillermo del Toro. Ever since the first footage of the film was unveiled at Comic-Con this past summer, speculation about Pacific Rim – and the unique style that del Toro plans to implement in the onscreen chaos – has run rampant, reaching a fever pitch with the recent release of the trailer.

According to the official plot synopsis, Charlie Hunnam (TV’s Sons of Anarchy) and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) lead the cast as the two unlikely souls on whom the fate of the world depends. Idris Elba (Thor, Prometheus) also appears as Lieutenant-Commander Stacker Pentecost, commanding officer of Hunnam’s character.

Now, thanks to Emile Eid, we ...

Special Features - The Future of Guillermo del Toro

30 December 2012 11:44 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

David Bishop sorts through the multitude of projects on Guillermo del Toro's upcoming slate to see which ones have a shot at reaching the screen...

Visionary director / producer / writer / filmmaking machine Guillermo del Toro has about a million projects on the go. It seems his name is never far away when a major new franchise rears its head, on top of the ridiculous amount of self-starting projects he seems to announce on an almost daily basis. So, with the recent release of the (mind-blowing) Pacific Rim trailer, it seems a good time to get things straight and find out what’s concrete, what’s a possibility and what’s just wishful thinking.

The Hobbit – “But he’s no longer involved you complete moron.” I hear you cry. Well indeed, but such was his involvement that he still got a co-writer credit for his troubles. Whether his influence will be »

Here, we have a new photo from Guillermo Del Toro’s Kaiju vs. Jaegers movie Pacific Rim. Unfortunately, it only features Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi, and no beasts, metal or alien. Boring (it takes a lot to make Idris Elba boring). Here it is though:

The film opens July 12th, 2013, and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, and Max Martini. »

Now courtesy of the Lebanese Movie Guide, we have a brand new image from the film showing British star Idris Elba (Luther, Thor) and Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom, 47 Ronin)...

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn »

Guillermo Del Toro Shares The Short Film That Inspired Mama

28 December 2012 7:38 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Guillermo Del Toro doesn.t really need to make Pacific Rim. The writer-director stays plenty busy producing genre projects that tickle his fancy. Mind you, we.re thrilled that he.s still inspired to have massive robots fighting off giant, freaking monsters for our summer-blockbuster enjoyment. But while we wait for Rim to hit a few months, right now the director wants to get us ready for Mama, a witch tale he helped produce. According to Del Toro, Andres Muschietti.s horror feature started as a short film about two orphaned girls found in the woods. They are handed over to a foster parent (played, in the movie, by the versatile Jessica Chastain), only to learn that their supernatural .mother. has followed them. Del Toro appears before a YouTube clip to intro the original short, which you can now watch right her as you prepare for the feature-length version: .Mom »

What to expect in 2013

Winona Ryder is back, as are sequels and threequels, and a star is porn

Charlie Kaufman will return (with a cartoon)

Although Kaufman's second directorial film, Frank Or Francis, seems to be mired in development purgatory, this May we'll get to see his hour-long stop-motion animation Anomalisa. Exec-produced by Community creator Dan Harmon, it was funded by Kickstarter: 5,770 backers pledged over $400,000 and, depending on how much they donated, they will be rewarded with everything from screen credits to nights out drinking with the crew.

Diablo Cody is going to have a good year

While a remake of Sam Raimi's 1981 horror The Evil Dead may seem like a perfectly pointless exercise, the fact that Sam Raimi co-wrote the new script himself and then hired confirmed horror fan Diablo Cody to rework it is reason for optimism. After this year's brilliant Young Adult was underseen and overlooked, 2013 should be kinder to Cody, »

One Thing We Now Know For Sure About ‘Pacific Rim’: Idris Elba Will Stand At Some Point

28 December 2012 2:00 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

While we’d be willing to hazard a guess that the only thing you really need to know about Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rimis that it involves giant, human-controlled robots battling sea monsters, apparently that’s not quite enough to sell this thing, because now we need to look at pictures of humans standing around looking mad. Where the hell are the robots? Bring out the sea monsters! At least hit us with some Charlie Day. The Lebanese Movie Guide (because of course?) has just debuted a new still from the film (via ComingSoon) which basically reveals nothing beyond the fact that stars Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi will stand together at some point, looking at each other in a vaguely combative way, while some diligent workers toil behind them (is that guy playing Galaga?). If this means that we might get a similarly-tense robot-staring-down-a-sea-monster still in the near future, that »

A handful of new images for you this Friday, starting with three new images from John Lussenhop’s “Texas Chainsaw 3D”, including new looks at the film’s gorgeous star Alexandra Daddario slipping into something a little more comfortable than that oh-so-fashionable get-up they had her wearing in the trailers. Also starring Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Bill Moseley, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Richard Riehle, Shaun Sipos, Gunnar Hansen, Thom Barry, Trey Songz, Sue Rock, Dan Yeager, Marilyn Burns, “Texas Chainsaw 3D” buzzes into theaters January 4, 2013. New image from Pacific Rim

A new image has been released from Guillermo Del Toro’s sci-fi epic, Pacific Rim, and oddly enough, it contains neither aliens nor giant robots. Instead, the new image is a rather sober shot of Idris Elba conversing with Rinko Kikuchi against a backdrop of some sort of centre of operations. The film finds Earth in deadly peril, when a race of bizarre aliens known as “Kaiju” pitch up on our fair planet and start throwing their weight around. A lethal invading force, it isn’t long before they’ve all but taken over...
