The cast of new holiday comedy "The Night Before" stopped by Spike's "Lip Sync Battle," the series adaptation of the popular "Tonight Show" segment,  hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen. As expected, the two guests tear it up and get down: Anthony Mackie lip syncs to Mc Hammer's "2 Legit to Quit" and proves to be a natural at stripping off his cool white suit down to a singlet.  However, it's Joseph Gordon-Levitt who leaves LL Cool J with his jaw on the floor as Jgl channels his inner Janet Jackson and owns the role with "Rhythm Nation." Anthony Mackie can't help but show his admiration and surprise at his co-stars skills.  Check out the video above and decide who's the better of the two.  Read More: Watch: Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie and Kate Winslet Face Off in Ultra-Violent 'Triple 9' Trailer »

Syfy Greenlights Unscripted Social Media Show ‘The Internet Ruined My Life’

10 November 2015 11:42 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Syfy has ordered six episodes of new half-hour unscripted series, “The Internet Ruined My Life,” which is set to premiere in early 2016.

“The Internet Ruined My Life” will expose the unexpected perils of living in a social-media obsessed world. Each episode will tell real-life stories of people who had posts, tweets or status updates backfire — from an innocent tweet that caused two traveling friends to be detained and suspected of potential terrorism, to a hashtag that unleashed death threats and a sniper outside a young woman’s window, to a profile picture that got transformed into a hateful meme shared by hundreds of thousands, the series tells each story through gripping first-person accounts.

“With technology making it possible to communicate to anyone, anytime, from anywhere, what was once the stuff of science fiction is now an everyday reality,” said Heather Olander, senior vice president of alternative development and production at Syfy. »

It's a couple made in "Face Off" heaven! Host of the SyFy series McKenzie Westmore and former judge Patrick Tatopoulos got married in Malibu, California over the weekend -- and we've got a ton of photos from their special day. Westmore, who we'll always remember as Sheridan Crane on "Passions," and the special FX guru/director/production designer met on the reality TV series and got engaged in January 2014. They said "I do" at Saddlerock Ranch Winery on Sunday, the bride stunning in a white gown with lace cutouts down the sides. The wedding was originally supposed to happen months ago, but Tatopoulos got a Very big job that forced the two to delay the ceremony. "We were supposed to do it back in May, but we had to push because he was working on 'Batman v. Superman.' It's a good reason, I can't complain," Westmore told toofab back in July. »

Emmys: Newer Series Find It Hard to Break Into Reality Categories

18 August 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Feel like you were caught in a time loop after reading the names of this year’s unscripted Emmy nominees? If so, you’re not alone.

They are all worthy and high-quality shows, nevertheless they’ve been the same six series battling it out in the reality competition program category since 2012: “The Amazing Race,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Project Runway,” “Top Chef,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Voice.” The only change that category has seen in recent years was when then-newcomer “The Voice” usurped the spot previously held by “American Idol.”

“It’s predictable, boring — and it’s frustrating,” says Dwight D. Smith, exec producer of Syfy’s “Face Off,” a Critics Choice award winner that has yet to land a series nomination from the TV Academy.

“If you look at the nominees in the category, it’s hard for new shows to break in because »

Syfy’s ‘Face Off’ Pulls Back Curtain on Makeup Artists

15 June 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

When Darla Edin was crowned champion of Syfy’s makeup competition show “Face Off” for her finale presentation — a fantasy spin on the four elements: fire, water, wind and earth — she covered her face and burst into tears; a reaction that audiences have witnessed since the genre was invented. But “Face Off,” now entering its ninth season, isn’t the ruthless, back-stabbing reality competition show viewers have come to expect. It pulls back the curtain on a rarely celebrated Hollywood occupation — that of incredible creating special effects with makeup — and is, in many ways, a show about unsung heroes and true artistry like that displayed by 28-year-old Edin.

As Dwight D. Smith, one of the show’s executive producers says, “The artists that we have on the show are all about the art and the passion and creativity first before they are about wanting to be on television.”

Here's the Full List of Critics' Choice TV Awards Winners

1 June 2015 6:45 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

It should come as no surprise that critically-acclaimed series such as "The Americans" and "Silicon Valley" took home top prizes at the fifth annual Critics' Choice TV Awards on Sunday night (it's right there in the name of the event, after all). But there was plenty of love for popular shows, too, proving that quality programming is becoming more widely available and amenable to audiences during this so-called golden age of television.

"The Americans" and "Silicon Valley" each claimed high honors in the best drama and comedy series categories, respectively, and their home networks were the biggest winners of the night: HBO snagged seven statuettes, while FX collected four. "Silicon Valley" was among the shows that won multiple awards, with T.J. Miller taking home the trophy for best supporting actor in a comedy.

Freshman series "Better Call Saul" and "Transparent" also walked away with two trophies apiece, while new sensation »

The 5th annual Critics’ Choice TV Awards took place Sunday at the Beverly Hilton hotel and aired live on A&E. “So You Think You Can Dance” host Cat Deeley emceed the proceedings — and also found time to accept the prize for best reality host midway through the show. Despite playfully jabbing rival host Tom Bergeron during her intro by joking she’d purposefully gotten him relegated to one of the back tables in the ballroom, she was spotted warmly embracing the “Dancing with the Stars” mainstay during the ad break.

The first prize of the night went to “Better Call Saul’s” Jonathan Banks for best supporting actor in a drama, and the thesp also had the dubious honor of earning the ceremony’s first (but far from the last) bleep during his acceptance speech. The “Breaking Bad” spinoff later won a second award for Bob Odenkirk’s lead »
