There's a lot of reality TV ahead in 2015: more than 70 new and returning reality shows debut in January alone. Here's a guide to some of the highlights and lowlights, and trends that I've spotted among all the reality TV networks are flinging our way. Twists and changes come to the big shows "The Amazing Race" (CBS, Feb. 25) will, for the first time, bail on the one thing that made it different: casting people with preexisting relationships. While all 11 teams are dating couples, including a former New Kid on the Block and his boyfriend, five of the 11 teams will meet for the first time at the race's starting line. It seems like a desperate attempt to create even more drama, but it may also be interesting to see how well strangers function as a team during a race around the world. "Survivor Worlds Apart" (CBS, Feb. 25) isn't celebrating its 30th season with an all-star season, »

The seventh season of Syfy's "Face Off" ended with an epic choreographed battle between knight characters created by the final three makeup artists. Judge Neville Page said, "This is like Game of Thrones." If only! Yes, the battle was fun, and the characters who were battling were mostly creative, well-constructed, and had details that made them look like they each belonged in the world of a fantasy film or TV show. But where "Game of Thrones"--which also debuted in 2011, just like "Face Off"--has changed and evolved over time, "Face Off" has not, even though it has aired more seasons. It is, of course, unfair to compare two totally different series in different genres. But let's look at other reality TV competitions between talented artists. All those that have survived past a few seasons (oh, "Work of Art," where did you go?) have all managed to retain their core »

Let’s face it, reality competition shows are getting a little old. You’ve seen all the cooking, sewing, and voting off you can stand. Syfy is trying to change that attitude with shows like Face Off, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, and now, Wizard Wars.
How about if we put magicians to the reality challenge test? But, what could that mean? How do you put magicians through the paces of a reality competition show? Well, according to Wizard Wars, you give them a random assortment of everyday items, and make them impress Penn & Teller.
Yeah. That sounds about right.
Be sure to set your DVR so you don’t miss this one. It’s hitting August 19th, and it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

A couple of years ago it was announced that Clive Barker was developing a TV series with Morgan Creek based on his 1990 horror film Nightbreed. We haven't heard anything about it since he first talked about it, saying:
"The sensitivity of our culture has sort of caught up with Nightbreed. I don't wish to be immodest, but the general sense is that the movie failed because people didn't want to associate with the monster, and I think our culture has changed—I think our culture is now ready to embrace the ambiguity."
Apparently, the production company is once again taking steps to develop the movie into a series. An extended cut of the film is set to be released on Blu-ray soon, and while promoting it, Michael Plumides of Morgan Creek gave an update in an interview with Empire.

Nightbreed is back in a big way with a brand new comic book series and a director’s cut version of the movie headed to Blu-ray and DVD in October. However, not all fans may be aware of a TV series that has been in development and we’ve received an update from Michael Plumides on the current status of the Nightbreed TV series:
“We’ve been actively developing the Nightbreed TV series at Morgan Creek with Clive Barker for two years. We hope the newly restored Director’s Cut will help us illustrate how wildly popular the series could be to potential buyers. I recently penned four episodes including the pilot, with material all approved by Clive and Mark Miller at Seraphim Films. We have also been developing new Nightbreed creature concepts and I’ve been collaborating with Tate Steinsiek (SyFy’s Face Off) for some months now, to »
