Dowdle Brothers on the Harrowing Making of ‘No Escape’

25 August 2015 2:10 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When John Erick Dowdle and his younger brother Drew Dowdle sat down at the premiere of their movie “No Escape” last week, it was the realization of a dream eight years in the making — one that had been diverted several times.

“There were four times, maybe five, this movie almost got made,” says John, who directed and co-wrote the film with Drew, who produced. He explains the movie lost financing several times over the years. “One time we were literally about to get on a flight to Thailand to start filming and it imploded.”

So you can forgive the brothers for being more nervous than usual about their big premiere. “I had anxiety dreams every night this week about things going terribly wrong,” Drew says with a laugh. “I dreamt it was cancelled, they gave our tickets away. … I couldn’t quite wrap my brain around the fact this was really happening. »

From Dusk Till Dawn: Season Two Premieres 8/25; Austin Mayor Makes It “From Dusk Till Dawn Day”

24 August 2015 5:44 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Last year, we saw the debut of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, which brought the Tarantino-penned/Robert Rodriguez-directed film to the small screen, in a very different approach. It was quite the interesting series, taking turns that were very unexpected and different than the film, which set the TV series on its own path. Now with the August 25th premiere of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Season Two set to make its debut, Austin TX mayor Steve Adler has made August 25th “From Dusk Till Dawn Day”, in a celebration held at Troublemaker studios.

Rodriguez had the following to say: “Austin is my home and I’m honored to have collaborated with the Austin creative community all these years making movies and television for the world to see. I’m so proud that From Dusk till Dawn is Austin made and that we can celebrate this day with the community. »

Piper Perabo

Since playing aspiring singer Violet Sanford in Coyote Ugly, Piper Perabo's career has veered from the sublime (2005's The Prestige) to the ridiculous (2008's Beverly Hills Chihuahua).

'Stanford Prison Experiment' director still hasn't heard from the original subjects yet

You'll be kicking yourself if you don't see "The Stanford Prison Experiment" in theaters.  Seriously.  And, no, I'm not just saying that because I happen to know director Kyle Patrick Alvarez socially or that it's a Sundance Jury Award-winning movie or that it depicts one of the most shocking events to occur at one of America's greatest Universities over the past fifty years.* The real reason is that besides the questions it raises about the human condition and our ability to descend to abject cruelty, "Stanford" features a once in a life time cast that will dominate Hollywood for the next 15 to 20 years.* *It also has earned strong reviews to date including a 71 grade on Metacritic and 78% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Based on true events, the new drama chronicles the 1971 psychological experiment that found Stanford University students sorted into the roles of prison guard or a generic prisoner.  In theory, »
