Bring on the Transformers reboot!

Ricky Church looks forward to the Transformers reboot…

Transformers is one of the oldest pop culture franchises and a beloved one for an entire generation. Michael Bay’s films based off the 80s cartoon is much less revered, however. Some of the films have their moments, but they never rise above either an entertaining turn-you-brain-off flick or a massive of pile unwatchable crap such as Revenge of the Fallen. After five films, Bay’s Transformers films have gotten more than tiresome. Now a recent rumour suggests Paramount and Hasbro are ready to reboot the franchise after the Bumblebee spin-off.

Please let this be true because it is about time.

While it can be argued that the original Transformers series from the 80s was just an excuse to sell toys, especially in the later seasons when new characters were randomly introduced as having always been there or the animated Transformers: The

Comic Book Review – Transformers vs Visionaries #1

Ricky Church reviews Transformers vs Visionaries #1…

After the events of First Strike, Hasbro and Idw have brought together the Transformers and Visionaries franchises together for the first time. A part of Cybertron has been transformed into the homeworld of the Visionaries thanks to the wizard Merklynn, draining much of Cybertron’s valuable energon in an already tumultuous political landscape. The first issue of this miniseries introduces the Visionaries to the Idw universe and sets up the conflict between them and the transformers as each group attempts to hold onto the planet.

The first issue as a bit interesting as it brings in actual magic to the universe, something Kup, Ironhide and Wheeljack think can just be explained by science. The story explores the aftermath of First Strike, but is largely set-up for later. There’s not much to the conflict that what is stated: most of the Visionaries side with

Let's Meet the Jaegers of Pacific Rim Uprising

  • Cinelinx
The humans of the new Pacific Rim movie are good and all but let's talk these mechs that they are piloting because let's face it, I like the Jaegers better than humans.

Everyone is building up excitement for the upcoming sequel to the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim Uprising. Which the official trailer was shown at Nycc 2017 and you can watch that here. We’re starting to get more detail about the characters Mako, Jake, and Lambert. Jake Pentacost apparently was a Jaeger pilot who left the program abandoning his copilot Major Nate Lambert who has some animosity against Jake for that. Jake has apparently in his time away been a bit of a criminal selling weapons on the black market. He never felt he was living up to his father Stacker Pentacost’s expectations and had jealousy towards his adopted sister Mako who has now become a trainer for the modern day Jaeger pilots.

Spider-Man Battles Scorpion in First Clip From Marvel's New Spider-man Animated Series

Marvel has released sneak peek of their new Spider-Man animated series. It features a clip of Spidey in the heat of battle with Scorpion. The new series goes back to the origins of Spider-Man as a hero while Peter Parker discovers his powers and begins fighting crime in New York City.

It looks like something the kids will enjoy, but Marvel hasn't really impressed me with any of their animation projects since The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Since then things have just been going downhill, especially the animation quality.

Maybe some of you will enjoy this first look more than I did. Check it out and tell us what you think! The series is set to debut on Disney Xd this summer.

Produced by Marvel Animation, the animated Spider-Man series’ award-winning creative team includes executive producers Alan Fine (Marvel’s The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor), Dan Buckley (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble,

Hey, Finn Jones – Critics Can Be Fans Too

Gary Collinson responds to Finn Jones’ comments about the negative reviews for Iron Fist

In the wake of the near-universally negative reviews for Netflix’s latest Marvel show, Iron Fist star Finn Jones has spoken out about the critical backlash to the new series this past weekend, stating that “these shows are not made for critics, they are first and foremost made for the fans.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that comment; most notably, it happened last year with Warner Bros.’ two DC movies Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Given the critical mauling that both of these films received compared to their box office takings and general fan reception, an argument could be made that there is some sort of disconnect between critics and fans when it comes to the Dceu (although that doesn’t take into account the DC fans who

Comic Book Review – Transformers Annual 2017

Ricky Church reviews Transformers Annual 2017…

Ghost Stories! Optimus Prime returns to Cybertron—only to be confronted by his rival for the Matrix, Pyra Magna! As Pyra’s origin—before she was part of Victorion—is finally revealed, Optimus relives his own past—the first time he met Bumblebee!

Idw’s Transformers Annual 2017 offers the series a bit of an interlude that looks at the early days of Pyra Magna and, surprisingly, Bumblebee. Both stories offered a deeper look at these characters, though it was Pyra Magna’s story that really shed light on the character along with setting up future conflicts. All in all, though, the annual delivered a good pair of tales of the Transformers universe.

When it comes to Bumblebee, there’s not really much that needs to be said about his past or why he joined up with the Autobots.

Studio Ghibli's animated TV series coming to Amazon Prime

Ryan Lambie Oct 17, 2016

Ronja The Robber's Daughter, an anime series co-produced by Studio Ghibli, is heading west courtesy of Amazon Prime...

Studio Ghibli has a long history with Swedish author Astrid Lingren. Way back in the 70s, Ghibli co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata attempted to stage an adaptation of Lingren's Pippi Longstocking books, and even travelled to Sweden to try to convince the author to sell them the rights. Lingren turned the animators down - understandable, given their relative lack of fame at the time - and a clutch of story boards and concept sketches are all that remain of the abandoned project.

Phantasm: Ravager trailer

Joseph Baxter Sep 21, 2016

The terrifying Tall Man makes his creepy return in the trailer for long-awaited horror sequel Phantasm: Ravager...

One of horror cinema’s most unsung, yet influential franchises makes a return glistening with global devastation in Phantasm: Ravager. The trailer for the upcoming release of the belated fourth sequel of the Phantasm film franchise showcases an upgraded return for writer/director Don Coscarelli’s illusion-imbued cinematic shockfests.

The trailer for Phantasm: Ravager, the franchise’s first entry since 1998’s Phantasm IV: Oblivion, sticks to the tried and true, once again focusing on the series’ repertory ponytail-rocking protagonist in Reggie Bannister’s 'Reggie'. Apparently having spent the last 18 years wandering the Earth like Caine from Kung Fu, it seems that Reggie is ready for what is being billed as the final showdown between him and The Tall Man.

Series alumni A. Michael Baldwin and Bill Thornbury, the young siblings

Godzilla animated movie in the works, first concept art emerges

Ryan Lambie Aug 22, 2016

Japan's most famous kaiju is to get an animated feature film, as Toho announces the "big-scale" Godzilla...

Godzilla may have passed his 60th birthday, but the city-levelling creature still holds as much fascination as he ever did. Gareth Edwards' Us Godzilla film marked the kaiju's anniversary back in 2014, while this year's Shin Godzilla was a huge hit in Japan in June. The Japanese studio that created Godzilla (or Gojira, as he's known in the far east) isn't stopping with that hit, either.

According to Variety, Toho is in the process of making an animated movie, simply called Godzilla, which it describes as a "big-scale" feature film - a contrast from the fondly-remembered but goofy TV series co-created by Hanna-Barbera in the 1970s. Animation will be handled by Tokyo's Polygon Pictures, the studio behind such things as Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence and Transformers Prime. As such,

Transformers: The Movie 30th Anniversary Blu-ray announced

The Transformers franchise has been around for decades and dozens of iterations, showing no signs of slowing down as next year Michael Bay releases the fifth installment of his feature film franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight. Long before Bay started making Transformer films, though, there was another feature film that is often overlooked now: Transformers: The Movie. Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studios announced a distribution collaboration to bring the movie to Blu-ray on September 30th, 2016 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The movie is being brought to HD from its original 35 mm print with a range of yet to be announced bonus features and collectible packaging.

Made in 1986, Transformers: The Movie was the first animated feature that also tied into the original animated series made between the second and third seasons. The movie was infamous, and still remains so, for killing Optimus Prime and many of the of the other G1 characters at the time.
