The Tall Man (2012) - News Poster

Trailer & Poster for Pascal Laugier’s ‘Ghostland’

Pascal Laugier is a director with a reputation… After all, when you make a film like Martyrs, you’re bound to get pigeon-holed into the “extreme cinema” category. However Laugier’s first film post-Martyrs, The Tall Man, wasn’t met with as much… praise… Which is probably why the French director has taken 6 years to follow that film up with another spooky tale: Ghostland (aka Incident in a Ghostland), which stars Crystal Reed, Anastasia Phillips, Mylene Farmer, Emilia Jones, and Taylor Hickson.

Following the death of her aunt, Pauline and her two daughters inherit a house. But the first night, murderers enter the house and Pauline must fight to save her daughters. A drama that will traumatize the whole family but especially affect differently each of the girls whose personalities will diverge further after this nightmarish night. While Beth becomes a renowned author specializing in horror literature, Vera gets bogged down in destructive paranoia.

Ghostland: Check The First Footage From The Martyrs Director's Latest

French director Pascal Laugier created a divisive masterpiece with his 2008 extreme horror offering Martyrs - go ahead and guess which side of the divide I'm on from that statement - but has been heard from surprisingly seldom since. Laugier was attached to a remake of Hellraiser for a time but his only completed credits in the tens years now since Martyrs remain 2012 feature The Tall Man and a single episode of television series Xiii, also in 2012. But he returns to the big screen this year with the upcoming Ghostland. Following her aunt’s death, Colleen and her two daughters – the eldest, Beth, totally locked-in and shy, finds comfort in the stories she invents in the books she writes, and Vera, way more...

Haunting First Trailer For Slender Man Creeps Online

The urban legend is officially headed for theaters as IGN has premiered the inaugural trailer for Slender Man, Screen Gems and Sylvain White’s horror flick due to arrive on May 18th.

Lifting inspiration from the titular Internet phenomenon, one hatched by Eric Knudsen almost 10 years ago, Slender Man is a long-brewing thriller from the mind of David Birke, who’s perhaps best known for his contribution to Paul Verhoeven’s Elle. This time around, he’s dealing with a modern-day myth, as Slender Man has spawned countless memes, video games, and even an attempted murder in 2014, when two young girls stabbed one of their classmates in an alleged ‘sacrifice’ to the online boogeyman. Chills.

And like all great horror stories, that impossibly tall ghoul has even inspired some half-baked clones, including The Tall Man and The Bye-Bye Man. Neither film was really up to snuff, though, which lends Slender

Don Coscarelli’s B-movie smash has some of the childs-eye fever dream atmosphere of 1953’s Invaders From Mars. The movie pins its notoriety on its central villain, “The Tall Man”, played by the imposing Angus Scrimm, an otherworldly undertaker who manufactures zombies out of the recently deceased. Made for 300,000, the movie took in 12 million at the box office but oddly, the inevitable sequel didn’t appear for another nine years.

Pretty Packaging: Having A Ball With The Phantasm Boxset

Fans of Don Coscarelli's Phantasm horror franchise had reason to rejoice in April: both in the Us and in the UK, Blu-ray boxsets of the five films were released. Well Go USA did the honors on the West side of the Atlantic, while Arrow Video took on Great Britain two weeks later. While I haven't exactly been a follower of the series (I've only seen the first one when it was on TV once...) I've always been intrigued by its daft setup and its weird nemesis "The Tall Man". Acquiring a comprehensive Phantasm release was somewhere on my to-do-at-some-point list, so I was very happy with these sets showing up. Being in Europe, I ordered the Arrow set and it looks damn nice. The box...

New Phantasm Sentinel Sphere Ornament from Mondo & Middle of Beyond

  • DailyDead
If The Tall Man kept a Christmas tree in a quiet corner of his mausoleum, he might have hung Sentinel Spheres on its branches (when he wasn't busy tormenting Mike, Jody, and Reggie), which is something that horror fans can do in future holiday seasons now that Mondo and Middle of Beyond's Phantasm ornament is available to pre-order (with an estimated January shipping date).

From Mondo: "We're feeling the holiday spirit here at Mondo, and to celebrate the season we've teamed up with our friends with Middle of Beyond to bring you ornaments inspired by two awesome properties: Phantasm and Madballs!

We were crossing our fingers to receive the ornaments into our warehouse before the holidays, but it looks like they won't be getting to us until the end of December. We don't expect to ship out orders until January 2017...but we're holding out for a Christmas miracle. If we

Interview: Don Coscarelli and friends reflect on 40 years of Phantasm

Nearly 40 years after the release of the original Phantasm, the story of brothers Mike and Jody, their guitar-playing, ice cream-slinging pal Reggie, and their fight against the grave-robbing inter-dimensional shapeshifter known as The Tall Man continues in the fifth film in the Phantasm series, Phantasm: Ravager. Remarkably for a franchise with such longevity, Phantasm: Ravager utilizes much of the same cast and crew as the original film—in fact, it’s the first Phantasm movie not to be directed by series creator Don Coscarelli. But Coscarelli was still heavily involved in the production as a writer and producer, part of a close-knit group of collaborators that made the movie on a shoestring budget over the course of nearly a decade.

The A.V. Club joined Coscarelli, director David Hartman, star Reggie Bannister, and co-producer Gigi Bannister in a crowded private karaoke room in Austin the day after Phantasm: Ravager ...
