Selena Gomez Talks 'Raw' New Role

1 December 2011 9:06 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Is Selena Gomez the next Disney star to shed her family-friend image?

The 19-year-old star of "Wizards of Waverly Place" is taking on director, Harmony Korine's, latest project, "Spring Breakers."

It won't be zany antics and fun in the sun for Gomez, who stars alongside James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts, as the film revolves around a group of broke college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break trip, and a drug and arms dealer they find themselves entangled with.

It's a far cry from "Princess Protection Program," but Gomez tells MTV News she's really excited to start filming the movie and beginning the next chapter in her career.

"It's a different character than I have ever played before. It's a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing in me," she said. "What you're going to see is more raw, »

When Disney Starlets Show Their Dark Side

2 November 2011 6:10 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Pretty confident that this one won't air on the Disney Channel.

Variety reports that Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, two of the last decade's biggest tween starlets, are in talks to join the cast of the dark Harmony Korine film, "Spring Breakers." They would potentially join the also-negotiating James Franco and Emma Roberts in the flick about four college students who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break trip, and the scamming drugs and arms dealer with whom they get entangled.

Franco is certainly turning toward dark roles, with turns in the upcoming mental illness-themed dramas, "Maladies" and "The Stare," as well as "Cherry," about a porn star who gets entangled with a drug addicted lawyer.

Hudgens is making her first real dark film in "Gimme Shelter," in which she plays a pregnant teen who turns to the streets in search of survival. Pictures of her with short, »

29 September 2011 7:28 AM, PDT | TheImproper.com | See recent TheImproper.com news »

Vanessa Hudgens seems to have broken free of her squeaky clean Disney image and moved into adult acting with relative ease, thanks to a series of tough gritty roles. But she hasn’t lost her soft, sexy edge. She has also become a budding fashion icon, covering a number of magazines, and she’s kept busy on the set. “Gimme Shelter,” the 22-year-old’s latest film, is a drama directed and written by Ron Krauss. She stars as a pregnant teenager who runs away from her abusive mother, played by Rosario Dawson and traces her real father, played by Brendan Fraser. »

Last week, we brought you several pics from the set of R.I.P.D. Universal’s adaptation of this Dark Horse comic book by Peter Lenkov is currently filming in Boston, Massachusetts. We got a good look at Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Bacon, and Jeff Bridges in costume and in some interesting contexts.

THR reports the addition of Robert Knepper (Sgu, Heroes, Prison Break) to the cast. Knepper will play a “deado” or spirit that is not ready to depart this world. I am delighted to hear that the scene-stealing Knepper will be in R.I.P.D. I wonder what kind of trouble Knepper’s character will give the undead cops of the Rest In Peace Department!

Jeff Bridges’ undead cop character certainly looks like he has a lot of experience with difficult spirits. Check out these new pics from Zimbio of Jeff Bridges as Bo, an old gunslinger, on set!

Hunted Vanessa Hudgens an Ice Cold Survivor

Vanessa Hudgens is moving further away from her High School Musical roots as she takes on a ripped-from-the-headlines story in Frozen Ground, which also stars Nicolas Cage and John Cusack.

Hudgens showed a little talent in the abysmal SuckerPunch, shined a little brighter in Beastly, and even cut her hair for the upcoming Gimme Shelter, but Deadline brings word that she’s putting her acting skills to the test in the new thriller directed by Scott Walker, who also wrote the script.

Frozen Ground is based on real-life serial killer Robert Hansen, who abducted more than 24 women in 12 years. After kidnapping them, he’d fly them to Alaska, where he would then turn them loose, hunt them down, and kill them. In what has to be the greatest casting shock in history, Cusack has been tapped to play Hansen.

New York, Sep 12: Actress Vanessa Hudgens has given up her short haircut and got hair extensions during her visit to a salon.

The 22-year-old actress had her hair cut short for her role as a homeless pregnant teenager in 'Gimme Shelter', but she has now decided to change her style.

'She had it cut into a choppy bob. The stylists couldn't put in super-long extensions because they won't hold since her hair was so short. Vanessa was super-nice to everyone,' a source told nypost.com.

Vanessa Hudgens Tells You About The Wild Way Her Hair Was Cut & Why It Now Takes Longer To Style!

9 September 2011 8:24 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Vanessa is so dedicated to her work! For her role in the upcoming film, ‘Gimme Shelter,’ she actually cut her own hair in the wild, frantic way her character would have.

Vanessa Hudgens was patiently waiting for her hair to be cut by a hairstylist, but that just didn’t feel right. “In the movie, my character starts off by chopping all her hair off. For females, it’s a very big thing to chop all your hair off and [in the film] it’s done in a rage of fury, so it needed to be very choppy and not intentional,” explains Vanessa.

Vanessa took matters into her own hands!

“So I grabbed the scissor and started going for it and it was actually amazing, so liberating! And then my director is like, ‘You know what, we’re almost there. Do you mind if I get in there?’ And I’m like, fine whatever, »

Vanessa Hudgens Says She Loves Her Short Hair, But Carries Clip-In Extensions In Her Bag For A Quick Change!

7 September 2011 9:56 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

The star got a very short haircut for her role in the film, ‘Gimme Shelter,’ but has been seen wearing hair extensions almost just as often as she wears her hair naturally.

Vanessa Hudgens revealed to InStyle.com that she keeps clip-in hair extensions in her bag so that she can have long hair in seconds. “Tonight, I wanted to go boho. Short hair wouldn’t really work with this hat, so I just pulled these [extensions] out of my bag and clipped them in,” she explains.

The cut seems to be growing on Vanessa. She says she loves it!

“I do love my short hair, but sometimes you just want to change things up a bit.”

That’s certainly understandable. When you have long hair, you can pin it back, but with short hair, your only option is to add in extensions. Way to keep your hairstyles interesting, Vanessa!

Vanessa Hudgens Channels The Girl From The Ring With New Hair Extensions

6 September 2011 3:20 PM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

We’ll be the first to admit that Vanessa Hudgens has been going through a bit of a rough patch with her hair lately. Ever since lobbing off her trademark long locks for her role in Gimme Shelter, the former teen queen has tried many different styles to tame her self-described soccer mom ‘do. But we’re not so sure that these massive extensions are the best solution. She debuted the new tresses at the U.S. Open over the weekend, and it reminded us that we haven’t seen The Ring in a while. What stylist did she go to!? We’ve seen more realistic hair on stuffed Rasta bananas. Are you diggin’ the hair enhancement, or do you think she should go back to trying the shorter styles? Vanessa Hudgens Must Really Miss Her Long Hair — Have You Ever Regretted A Haircut?

6 September 2011 9:40 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

The actress attended the Us Open September 5 with long strands that were clearly not her own. Have You ever wished your hair was longer after a drastic cut?

Vanessa Hudgens had to cut her hair short for her role in the film, Gimme Shelter, but that doesn’t mean that she always has to wear it short! Do you think she misses her long-haired look or is she just trying out a different style?

Ever since Vanessa went short, she’s made no secret of the fact that it was a difficult change, even telling Access Hollywood that she felt that she looked like a “soccer mom.” It’s true that moms — or simply women of a certain age — tend to wear their hair shorter because they just have less time to maintain their hairstyles with children and work responsibilities to attend to. Is this haircut a so-called soccer mom ‘do? »
