Tony Scott To Direct Narco Sub

4 December 2011 4:50 AM, PST | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

Variety is reporting that director Tony Scott has picked up his latest project. Scott will helm the 20th Century drug thriller ‘Narco Sub’. The final discussions reportedly took place over the Thanksgiving weekend. The upcoming flick will follow the inner workings of a drug cartel and their use of submersible crafts to smuggle drugs into the United States, per Hey You Guys. Other than that not much else has been revealed in terms of plot details. With the studio said to be eager about the project, production on Narco Sub should be moving quickly into the production phase. The movie was penned by David Guggenheim of Safe House and Stolen »

Tony Scott To Captain “Narco Sub”

2 December 2011 1:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Although his strike rate is far from flawless (Pelham? Domino? Days of Thunder?) Tony Scott has some solid gold in his back catalogue as well – Man on Fire, Crimson Tide, Top Gun, True Romance – and is very rarely wholly off his game. It is therefore always good news to hear that he has something else in the pipeline, especially since he is returning to the milieu of what could be argued is his previous high water-mark – the afore-mentioned Crimson Tide.

Yes, it’s submersibles again for Tony Scott. Although plot details are hard to come by, the title Narco Sub refers to submersible vessels used by Latin American drug traffickers to get their wares into the Us and the suggestion is that tonally the film is reminiscent of Tide and Man on Fire. Frankly, anything even vaguely up those streets will be something to treasure. Fox are producing this one, »

Simon West in Talks to Direct Racing Romance ‘Dust and Glory’

29 November 2011 3:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Briefly: Simon West, the director of Con Air, The Expendables 2, and the Nic Cage film Stolen that we just mentioned this morning [1], is now in talks to make a new 'racing romance' called Dust and Glory. THR [2] says the film is based on a novel by Evan Green, which is set during the Redex trials [3] of the '50s. That is, a race that covered thousands of miles of very difficult Australian landscape. In fact, the trade says the book and resulting script (by Robert Lewis Galinsky) is something like Mad Max crossed with Jewel of the Nile. (What, a Romancing the Stone reference wasn't available?) There's no casting yet; producers of the indie hope to cast the film by the end of this year, and shoot in Australia by summer 2012. West, meanwhile, has to finish The Expendables 2, and he's also set to direct the mo-cap CGI war film [4] Thunder Run. »

Tony Scott to direct nautical thriller Narco Sub

29 November 2011 11:59 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Tony Scott heads back under the sea for a brand new thriller, Narco Sub...

After his adventures with trains in his past two features (The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable), director Tony Scott looks to be returning to submarines.

Crimson Tide was the director’s last underwater feature, and was a critical and commercial success, that earned three Academy Award nominations. He might just be hoping to catch some of that acclaim again after a run of films that have received mixed receptions. 2004’s Man on Fire was his last strong film for me.

The new project in question is a Fox production spectacularly titled Narco Sub, a nautical thriller about South American drug runners using submersible vessels to transport their goods to the United States. The script has been penned by David Guggenheim, who wrote the upcoming and rather ace looking Denzel Washington thriller Safe House.

Tony Scott Going Under with Drugs

29 November 2011 8:46 AM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Calm down. This isn't a scandalous tabloid article about Tony Scott's flagging career and prodigious drug abuse. This is a rather predictable article about one of Scott's upcoming film projects.

The movie in question is titled Narco Sub, about the semi-submersibles used to smuggle cocaine by South American drug cartels. It's being compared by other sites to past Tony Scott flicks like Crimson Tide and True Romance, but that's only because those movies involve submarines and coke, respectively…ohhh. I see it now.

Since the Internet is randomly comparing past Scott projects to this new one without any real idea about the details of Narco Sub, I'm going to go out on a limb and posit that this new flick is actually a mixture of Top Gun and The Hunger because, really, who doesn't wanna see that? There's no need for Bolivian drug dealers in rickety submarines when you »

Tony Scott To Take Charge Of Narco Sub

29 November 2011 7:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Action helmer Tony Scott has given us some of the best thrillling set-ups in movie history. Famous for making Tom Cruise a household name after Top Gun as well as some terrific collaborations with Denzel Washington (Crimson Tide, Man On Fire and Deja Vu). The directors fast paced style is now as iconic as his brother Ridley’s own unique visionary epics. News has broke today that Scott is set to sign off on a deal to direct action-thriller Narco Sub.

The script is penned by David Guggenheim, who also wrote the upcoming Nicolas Cage actioner Stolen as well as Denzel Washington’s Safe House, both released next year. Details of the plot are being kept under wraps but it is well know that ‘narco subs’ are used by South American drug cartels to smuggle cocaine into the U.S.

Tony Scott to Direct Drug Smuggling Thriller ‘Narco Sub’ For Fox

29 November 2011 6:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Well, it's not nearly as good as Peter Weir going back to Master and Commander, but at least someone at Fox is interested in making a nautical thriller. Kind of. Tony Scott has signed to work with Fox once again as producer and director on a drug-running sub thriller called -- seriously, this part isn't a joke -- Narco Sub. The title would seem to refer to crafts -- once only semi-submersible but now fully submersible -- that South American drug cartels sometimes use to smuggle cocaine into the United States. Colombian drug runners seem particularly fond of the little craft, which are adept at evading radar and sonar. The script is by new hot screenwriter David Guggenheim, and the project overall is described as being reminiscent of films like Man on Fire and Crimson Tide. Tony Scott has, of course, already made one film on a submarine, way back »

Simon West to Helm 'Dust & Glory' Car Racing Romantic Adventure

28 November 2011 7:56 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Are you ready for a "romance adventure" project (haven't heard that in a long time) wrapped in a car racing movie to be directed by the action filmmaker currently shooting The Expendables 2? THR is reporting that Simon West, who also directed Con Air, The General's Daughter, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Mechanic and Nicolas Cage's Medallion, which was just retitled to Stolen, is in negotiations to direct the film Dust and Glory. Produced independently by Top Cat Media and Blue Star Ent., the story is set during the 1950s' REDeX trials, which covered over 10,000 miles of the toughest racing terrain in Australia, maybe the world. This actually sounds kind of cool, especially if West delivers some good action. Dust and Glory is described a cross between Mad Max and Jewel of the Nile. Here's some info on the real Redex trials down in Oz. The screenplay, by newcomer »

Explosive First Trailer And Poster For Safe House With Denzel Washington And Ryan Reynolds

4 November 2011 8:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Put Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in a movie and what do you get?

Something that’s going to be ridiculously awesome. At least, if this first trailer is anything to go by.

Apple, via FirstShowing.net, have debuted the first trailer for Safe House, the action thriller co-led by Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, and it looks pretty damn sweet to me. And it goes nicely alongside the teaser poster that Imp Awards have for the film too.

“Oscar(R) winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Safe House Trailer Starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds

3 November 2011 2:25 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

We've got even more spy games on the horizon this week as the very first trailer for Safe House has hit the web courtesy of Apple. This is a project that has been getting a lot of buzz around Hollywood ever since it placed near the top of the 2010 Black List for best unproduced screenplays. Of course, lately it seems like Black List films have been somewhat hit and miss, but the casting of Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds gives this one hope beyond just the script from David Guggenheim (Medallion). Denzel plays Tobin Frost, a dangerous former C.I.A. agent gone rogue. After a decade spent off the grid, he is suddenly captured and brought to a C.I.A. safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. Rookie operative Matt Weston (Reynolds) is assigned to keep an eye on him, but when a team of mercenaries attack the base, »

McG Might Direct A “Puzzle” Project

28 October 2011 10:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Although many will never forgive him for the frankly torturous Charlie’s Angels films, McG might yet rehabilitate his image with some of his naysayers. Terminator Salvation seems to be cinematic marmite, though that does at least leave some who like it (myself among them) and This Means War, though by no means thematically ground-breaking, does at least look like good honest fun from the trailer we’ve now seen.

The abruptly-monickered one may well have a new project lined up, in the shape of “Puzzle Palace” for Summit. The script has been written by David Guggenheim (Medallion, Safe House, Exit Strategy) and involves a veteran police officer seemingly framed for murder and his son having to break into New York’s primary police HQ to try to retrieve crucial evidence. The son gets locked in and must then deal with (surprise, surprise) corrupt cops, no doubt intent upon covering »

McG In Talks For Action-Thriller Puzzle Piece

26 October 2011 11:05 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

He may appear unpopular to film fans for his tepid work on Charlies Angels and Terminator: Salvation but that hasn’t stopped studio’s looking at McG to helm some interesting projects.

It looks increasingly likely that the director will reteam with writer David Guggenheim on Puzzle Piece. McG and Guggenheim have recently collaborated on the yet-to-be-released Nicolas Cage action flick Medallion with McG serving as a producer.

Puzzle Piece will be an action-thriller that pits a the son of a framed cop accused of murder, against the corrupt team of  fellow officers. These crooked cops have the vital piece of evidence to prove his fathers innocence hidden in the most secure building in New York.

The director’s latest film This Means War, starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon, looks like an enjoyable action-comedy on the evidence of the recent trailer. Puzzle Piece sounds like it could be an interesting concept, »

McG Hopes To Solve ‘Puzzle Palace’

25 October 2011 9:04 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

When the trailer for the Chris Pine/Tom Hardy/Reese Witherspoon action romance This Means War was set upon the world earlier this month, I hoped it would be McG‘s swan song. But the blockbuster director behind Terminator: Salvation and Charlie’s Angels is getting more work and The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on what his next film may be.

The director has begun negotiations with Summit Entertainment to step behind the camera for their thriller Puzzle Palace. The film comes from the mind of David Guggenheim, who has another thriller coming out next spring with Safe House starring Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington. We’ll get a glimpse of that one with the first trailer before Tower Heist next week, but one can read a synopsis of Puzzle Palace below.

The story centers on a lawyer and the son of a veteran police officer who learns his father is framed for murder. »

McG In Talks To Direct Teen Thriller Puzzle Palace

25 October 2011 7:43 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

You may still not know his name, but David Guggenheim is having one hell of a year. While his only other credit before this year was as an office production assistant on the 1997 movie Addicted To Love, he has four scripts currently in active development, two of which have completed filming and are now in post-production. These projects include the Daniel Espinosa-directed Safe House and the Simon West-helmed Medallion (the two that have completed filming) as well as the superhero project 364, which has Ron Howard attached. The only movie he has that doesn't already have a director involved is the police drama Puzzle Palace, but that's close to being fixed. Deadline reports that McG is now in talks to direct the Guggenheim script. The film is described as a teen thriller that focuses on a kid who is locked inside of a police station. Veteran director and producer McG stayed busy with post-production work on his upcoming action comedy This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McG took time from his This Means War work to continue talks to direct the action movie Puzzle Palace from scribe David Guggenheim and production shingle Temple Hill. Guggenheim wrote the script about a veteran cop who breaks into New York City police headquarters in order to gather evidence to exonerate his father and faces crooked cops out to frame his father. McG earlier executive produced a previous Guggenheim scriot, Medallion, a thriller about a thief searching for his daughter locked away in the trunk of a New York City taxi. »
