Laine MacNeil (Patty Ferrell) did her own singing for her talent show number.
The line "Hey, Greg, what's new" as he holds up the video tape was ad libbed by Devon Bostick.
Most of the gags in the clean-up scene were improvised onset by the actors.
The young rich couple whom Greg runs away to is the same couple from the fictional scary movie "The Foot" that Greg and Rowley watch later on in the film.
The voice of young Rodrick in the school paper flashback scene was dubbed over by Devon Bostick (Rodrick).
Karan Brar's father Harry Brar and Robert Capron's father Robert Capron Sr. made cameo appearances in the audience at the talent show.

The photos in the background of the Heffley house are actual photos of the actors from their childhood. Director David Bowers said this was to give the house "an authentic feel."
In the book, the message on the door after the party is "Hi Rodrick!".
The game "Gut Busters" played by the boys and their grandpa in the retirement community scene was invented by the writer of the series Jeff Kinney. Each card for the board game read a different corny joke.
Stick around for a short scene after the credits. It involves Rowley and Greg looking at the video they had posted of Greg's mom dancing at the Talent show.

The director's parents can be seen in the church scene and also Robert Capron (Rowley Jefferson)'s dad is sitting next to Robert's screen dad.

Chloe Grace moretz's character from the first movie (the one that wasn't even in the book) doesn't appear in this movie or is even mentioned. She was most likely removed because scheduling conflicts or to stay more fateful to the books.
