Jane Fonda's character in the movie attended the Woodstock Festival in 1969 while pregnant; her water broke during Jimi Hendrix's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner". Fonda actually knew little about Woodstock (at the time, she was already over 30 and living in Europe), and didn't relate to this part of the story, until shown a documentary by co-star Catherine Keener. Watching Hendrix's set in the documentary, Fonda later explained, "I got it."

Maddie Corman, who plays Carole, is first seen at a peace rally in the middle of Woodstock. In the movie PCU she plays one of the Womynists, who protests everything as well.
