Craig Roberts joins 22 Jump Street

17 October 2013 12:55 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In the latest bit of casting for the much anticipated sequel to 21 Jump Street - appropriately titled 22 Jump Street - it has been announced that Submarine star and one time Tracy Beaker goth Craig Roberts will join Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube in the college comedy.

Although it is presumed that Roberts will be in a supporting role, it's a treat to see a young and talented British actor breaking Hollywood at such an early age. Roberts has recently wrapped on his reunion with Richard Ayaode in The Double, and the Nicholas Stoller-directed Neighbors alongside Zac Efron and Seth Rogen.

22 Jump Street will open on 13th June 2014 and will find Jonah Hill (Superbad, Moneyball) and Channing Tatum (Side Effects, Magic Mike) returning as Jenko and Schmidt in order to infiltrate a college. Craig Roberts, Wyatt Russell and Ice Cube all support, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing once again. »

Best of Toronto: Variety Critics Look Past the Oscar Hype

16 September 2013 2:07 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Peter Debruge: Looking back on 11 days and several hundred movies, it’s somewhat disheartening to realize this is the year that Oscar hype all but overwhelmed the Toronto Film Festival. Things have been gradually building up to this, considering that the festival served to launch such best-picture winners as “American Beauty,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “The King’s Speech” and “Argo,” among others, but it’s unfortunate that this hollow chatter has taken the place of substantial conversation about the merits of the many films on offer, the vast majority of which were conceived with no designs on earning little gold statues.

There’s a silver lining for those who’ve been following from a distance all the buzz around such heftily financed pictures as “12 Years a Slave,” “August: Osage County,” “Rush,” “Gravity” and “Prisoners,” as well as the scrappy, super-indie “Dallas Buyers Club,” a movie no one wanted to make but »

'12 Years a Slave' to 'Gravity': Recapping 26 Reviews from the 2013 Toronto Film Festival

16 September 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

After nine days in Toronto for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, I finally arrived home in Seattle late in the evening on Friday, September 13, and have been trying to catch up ever since. I still have one review to write for Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises, but managed to post 26 reviews from the festival and just below is a recap of all 26 with my teaser for each review, the grade and a few words to sort of put a capper on the festival as we now move full steam ahead into Oscar season. Speaking of Oscar season, following this recap I'm going to be going straight into work on updating my Oscar predictions. There is a lot of moving and shuffling that needs to be done after not only the Toronto, but Telluride and Venice Film Festivals and with the New York Film Festival right around the corner. Exciting times folks. »

What I Watched, What You Watched #209

8 September 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Obviously I'm in Toronto and what I'm seeing you can track right here, but for those that don't want to click the link so far I've seen Don Jon, Blue is the Warmest Color, The Fifth Estate, The Invisible Woman, Tom at the Farm, Prisoners ,Parkland, The Railway Man, Dallas Buyers Club and Gravity. I've been able to review several of them already and plenty more reviews are on the way with Prisoners and Dallas Buyers Club reviews coming later today... depending on when you're reading this. As for what I'm watching today, that would be The Double, Can a Song Save Your Lifec, Philomena and Dom Hemingway in my only day here in Toronto with five movies and finding time to write all the reviews has become the hardest part. Luckily, things will begin to free up a little next week and hopefully I'll be caught up sooner rather than later. »

Final 2013 Toronto Film Festival Screening Schedule

4 September 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Surprisingly, or not so surprising, depending on how much you've been reading my day-to-day Toronto-related posts, my schedule for this year's 2013 Toronto Film Festival has changed quite a bit since I posted that preliminary schedule about two weeks ago. For starters, The Fifth Estate will no longer be my first screening of the fest as I hear it's not yet completed with some temp music still in place at this time, but they're hoping to have it completed and ready in the 9:30 Pm slot on the opening day. Either way, it will still play, but there just might be a disclaimer before it does. I must admit, they push these things to the wire, but thankfully it's nothing to do with the editing, just some last minute touches. The great thing about the change means I now get to see Don Jon, which I otherwise would have had to miss. »

A Look at How My 2013 Toronto Film Festival Schedule is Shaping Out

21 August 2013 2:24 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

The 2013 Toronto Film Festival Press and Industry schedule was just released and after a quick look I think I have my nine days on the ground mapped out. There were a lot of conflicts, some of which are forcing me to see the second screening of films such as Labor Day, Gravity and 12 Years a Slave, but as of right now it looks like it will be a 25 film festival for me, beginning tiwth The Fifth Estate and ending with Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises. The only films I couldn't really fit into the schedule were Xavier Dolan's Tom at the Farm, which conflicts with Rush and The Railway Man, which conflicts with the only screening of Parkland and if I was to see it the second time it shows it would mean missing both Joe and Under the Skin. Of course, this year I may try and »

24 July 2013 4:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

With each passing year, Tiff is becoming more and more prominent on the film festival circuit, with more and more Oscar-primed films making their debut out in Canada. And with the initial line-up announced for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, the trend is definitely continuing.

Amongst the many, many films making their presence felt out in Toronto will be Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated 12 Years a Slave, which launched a powerful first trailer earlier in the month. The film sees Chiwetel Ejiofor lead a fantastic cast, with Michael Fassbender returning to work for his Hunger / Shame director, alongside the likes of Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Paul Giamatti, and many more.

Opening the festival will be Bill Condon’s The Fifth Estate, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, alongside Daniel Brühl, Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, and Stanley Tucci.

And closing it will be Daniel Schechter’s Life of Crime, »

Topher Grace is Also Joining Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Cast

23 July 2013 1:05 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Briefly: One more interesting choice for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar project, finishing up its casting before shooting later this year. Deadline is reporting that Topher Grace will take an unspecified role in the sci-fi movie. Grace was last seen in Predators, The Double, The Big Wedding and The Giant Mechanical Man and recently finished shooting The Calling and A Many Splintered Thing, but hasn't been in too much otherwise. The cast for Interstellar already includes quite a few fantastic actors: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck and Michael Caine. The script was originally written by Jonathan Nolan, updated by Christopher Nolan and will "depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding." Cannot wait for this one. Launching November 2014. »
