A story of misguided youth playing with dangerous fireworks.
An episode of Irwin Allen's final TV series Code Red. This one has a touch of The Towering Inferno (with spectacular fires) and a feeling of "Bonanza 1981" as Lorne Green is still playing the concerned dad of a few sons (all firefighters).
The hour is loaded with actors known from other productions (Bonanza, Eight Is Enough, Flash Gordon, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, etc) and while it is fun playing "spot-the-star" it sort of feels like the cast just has too much baggage
Irwin Allen's 60s series - Land of the Giants - had a few episodes dealing with misguided youth and this hour of Code Red - Fireworks - has a touch of that. It even employs the same Giants composer, Richard LaSalle, who makes a very entertaining mark on the hour.
Despite a few flaws, this obviously G-rated tale has a touch of that flashy style Allen gave us in the 60s and 70s and who could not like a show where our heroes drive around in a 1950s car (in 1981). Also, the mighty opening theme music gets ten out of ten.
However, from what I have seen in my 2021 Youtube viewings of Code Red, some of the other episodes are missing the flashy style of Fireworks.
