The Final Devotion
Prismark1010 January 2022
It is the regular Flambeau episode. Also Lady Felicia returns to Kembleford after having had a blazing row with her husband.

Flambeau has visited Father Brown once again telling him that he is a reformed man.

The new Cardinal visits Kembleford and asks Father Brown to find a priceless Papal tiara hidden in a 15th century castle.

Obviously Flambeau is after the same treasure.

Father Brown, Mrs McCarthy and Lady Felicia visit the castle which is owned by Lady Cecily. Flambeau turns up claiming to be Lady Felicia's fiance.

The search for the lost treasure is made more urgent when a face from the past appears. They want revenge on Flambeau.

The funniest part is Mrs McCarthy having to pretend to be the mother of the bride. I'm not convinced that Flambeau declaration of his love for Lady Felicia.

When the chips are down, Flambeau knows to trust Father Brown.

The Flambeau stories are always special and this one is no exception. Good interplay by all concerned.

Best of the series so far.

Knowing of Father Brown's cleverness and talents, they call on the good Father to search for a long lost tiara, the only complication, is the presence of one Hercule Flambeau.

Perhaps the best episode of the series so far, I loved this one, it really did have it all, a fantastic mystery, a stunning location, and the return of some old friends.

The banter between Flambeau and Father Brown was top notch, they really do gel incredibly well.

Lady Felicia, back and as fabulous as ever, flirting with Flambeau, and of course dazzled by the dishy Italian Detective, she gets a great wardrobe once more, even if the hair piece is larger than the grounds.

Lovely acting throughout, John Light is always brilliant, lovely to see Diana Quick too. I hope that's not the end of Flambeau.

Berkeley Castle looked sensational, arguably the true standout element. Definitely worth a visit.

Loved it, 9/10.

Is it just me

Or does Flambeau remind anyone of the guy in Princes Bride?? I am watching Father Brown in reverse order (started with Season 9) so I have not met Flambeau before. But he so reminds me of the Princes Bride star (looks and charm wise). He is dashing and such a good con man/thief, handsome devil. So far I am enjoying this episode the most. I hope the prior seasons are just as interesting and fun!

Good Lord. How much of a review does one have to write. I have said all that I have to say and it's still not long enough!! I dont remember having to write this many characters! It's not a school essay and afterall who is really reading these reviews?? IMDB has died since the message boards were taken away!!!

I love the Flambeau episodes. Im always looking for some redeeming quality in his character & wondering how far he can be trusted. And Lady Felicia is back. Such fun to see what shenanigans the gang gets up to this time :) . Keep in mind stupid Covid still affecting things like film locations & social distancing. Next to Ep #2 focused on Mrs McCarthy this episide is my favorite for Season 9.

The writing was very very creative & inventive in this episode! Thoroughly enjoyed the meeting up of Flambeau & Lady Felicia! A strong cast & crafty writing made this very entertaining! The setting was absolutely spectacular! We found it quite amazing to imagine how the construction was accomplished!

Definitely a must see episode! Delightful!

Hercule Flambeau
safenoe28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hercule Flambeau (John Light) returns in this Father Brown episode which was filmed during the pandemic. One point of trivia is that John was married to Neve "Party of Five" Campbell. Anyway, Nancy Carroll makes a welcome return as Lady Felicia.

Raffaello Degruttola guest stars as Ispettore Mario Angelini, although his Italian accent seemed a bit too accented but still.

Diana Quick guest stars as Lady Cecily. Diana Quick was the partner of Bill "Love Actually" Nighy.

Jack Deam and John Burton make only a fleeting appearance towards the end of this pandemic episode that is worth watching for sure.

Much good stuffed into 47 minutes.

Been multiple years since I watched a "Father Brown" episode. I've always enjoyed viewing them but I just didn't have the streaming service that had the series available. The main reason I tracked this down was to see an episode with Diana Quick in it. Here as Lady Cecily.

"The Final Devotion" certainly didn't disappoint in quality. Unbelievably interesting, fast-paced, suspenseful, and a terrific witty ending. Not being up to date on the supporting characters was a little bit of a drawback. Fun to see Mark Williams as he's guested in multiple British detective mysteries. This proves a British detective mystery can check all the boxes in less than an hour and a half or 2 hours time frame that many have. Here only 47 minutes.

Glad I checked out "Father Brown" again. I'll certainly be revisiting the series in the near future.

Flambeau and Lady Felicia-yes!
reynoldskath2 February 2022
Any episode with either Flambeau or Felicia is special, but oh...the sparks. And the lack of Jack Deam's character is welcome. I find him tiring and no comparison to the previous chiefs.
