Dunkirk Trailer #2: Christopher Nolan and Harry Styles Team for WWII Epic

14 December 2016 7:44 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan returns for the first time since 2014's sci-fi epic Interstellar to give audiences the true-life WWII drama Dunkirk this summer. After a short teaser earlier in the year, we now have the full-length trailer, which marks the big screen debut of musician Harry Styles. It also reunites Nolan with some of his favorite actors, including Batman vets Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy.

Dunkirk marks the event that shaped our world. Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. Today, we get to see more of the action and thrills of this harrowing moment from history with all-new footage. And it surely impresses.

Christopher Nolan went after a mostly unknown cast for his army of young soldiers faced with the unthinkable. »

Scale the Best Films Taking Place in a High-Rise

13 May 2016 11:54 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

What is it about towering apartment buildings that fascinates filmmakers, especially those working in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy? It’s easy to imagine these eyesores of urban development — especially those with secured entrances and exclusive tenants — harboring sinister secrets inside their walls.

High-Rise, director Ben Wheatley adaptation’s of J.G. Ballard‘s eponymous sci-fi novel, more than fits into this strange subset of films, as it focuses on dystopian class warfare inside a monolithic beast of Brualist architecture. With the film now in theaters (and on VOD), we look at other other films that imagine the incredible, horrifying, or supernatural happenings in and around these deceptively unassuming structures.

Apartment Trilogy (Roman Polanski)

Has any set of films turned the usual drudgeries of apartment living — climbing up your stairs for the umpteenth time, dealing with troubled amenities, and trying your best to acknowledge neighbors’ existence without getting the least bit involved »

Giveaway – Win A Free Bluray of Sinister 2!!

4 January 2016 1:28 PM, PST | | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Scott Derrickson’s Sinister was a hit with horror fans, so when it came time to tackle a sequel to the 2012 shocker, it seemed like a followup would be a surefire success. Unfortunately, a lot of genre lovers didn’t show up to see the Derrickson/C. Robert Cargill-written Sinister 2 (on Blu-ray & DVD January 12th), and it’s a shame, as it was quite easily one of my favorite films of 2015. Stepping in to direct the sequel was Citadel‘s Ciaran Foy, who not only gave the genre a solid followup, but one that was also better than the 2012 original. Like our previous two giveaways, we’ve partnered up with Universal to give one lucky reader a Bluray copy of Sinister 2, so by all means, enter!
