DC Comics March 2012 Solicitations

12 December 2011 2:00 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.

Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Movie Review: I Melt With You – A Cacophony of Pointless Drug Abuse that Wishes it were More

9 December 2011 5:38 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Call it the Go Ask Alice for middle-aged men in crisis. I Melt With You is a monotonous pill-popping ride of visual over indulgence. Director Mark Pellington unites Thomas Jane (Hung), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation, Young Justice, Californication), and Christian McKay (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) in a two-hour long film that drags on due to lack of substance. Each actor has his share of great moments, but that’s all they amount to – moments. About thirty minutes into this film, you will be mislead into waiting for a layered story. Unfortunately, by the end of the film, you’ll realize the only layers that were there were in the levels of substance abuse that lacked any substance. Carla Gugino (Sucker Punch, upcoming By Virtue Fall) also shows up to show off how much wasted talent is in this film. I Melt With You is the story »

'Sons Of Anarchy': The Secret Comic Book History

by Ethan Kaye

Comic books weave threads through all popular media. What once lived in attics and dingy strip mall stores are now headlining box offices, Broadway stages, and magazine covers. So how far do these tentacles stretch? This column looks at what’s popular, and uncovers some of the hidden connections to the comic world!

This week: FX’s "Sons of Anarchy"! Biker gangs get a bad rap, and the members of Samcro absolutely deserve it. Murder, gun-running, porn, dope… it’s everything you expect from a no-holds-barred drama about the seedy gangs that control the underbelly of America. And some pretty big connections to the comic world!

» Ron Perlman: Clay Morrow runs the Sons of Anarchy, the papa bear from hell, but Ron’s more than just a thug on a bike. He’s racked up more comic credits than almost anyone. Most impressively, he led the »

DVD Review: Young Justice Season One Volume Two

23 November 2011 10:21 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans, and now Young Justice. In the past decade, the dynamic duo of Warner Bros Animation partnered with DC Comics has been a near perfect match. The cartoons each have their own sense of individuality. Yet, they all manage to blend just enough gritty action and realism with just the right touch of humor. Okay, Teen Titans may have been the exception to the “realism” rule (as far as realism goes in a comic inspired cartoon), but you understand my point. However, the one draw back of late are the home video releases. Young Justice: Season One V. 2 collects episode 5-8 of the Cartoon Network series. These includes “Schooled”, “Infiltrator”, “Denial” and “Downtime”. They are all great episodes individually. At this point the team is still working beneath the shadow of its older counterpart, The Justice League. Superboy wants to be mentored by Superman, »

Presenting our weekly round-up of the big news stories from the world of movie superheroes…

After a month of dominating the superhero headlines, The Dark Knight Rises takes a bit of a back seat this week, allowing Marvel Studios to take the spotlight with the release of two new character banners depicting all the main players from Joss Whedon’s epic superhero team-up, The Avengers. As you can see to your right, Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) are all present and accounted for. You can check out high resolution versions of the two banners over at YahooMovies, who also caught up with Whedon for a detailed interview that covers pretty much every aspect of the film (well, except the villains).

'DC Nation' Teaser Trailer Includes 'Green Lantern' And Chibi 'Teen Titans'

15 November 2011 1:18 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

When I was growing up, "Batman The Animated Series" was pretty much the greatest show that ever existed. The years may have wound on (and on, unfortunately), but there's still a soft spot in my heart for that Warner Bros. cartoon. DC isn't sitting on their laurels though, and Cartoon Network will soon play host to a special chunk of programming that focuses solely upon DC heroes and related brand content.

If you didn't get a chance to check out the premiere of the new "Green Lantern" animated series last Friday, you should try to give it a shot. So far – yes, there's only one episode out at this point – the show's looking like a lot of fun, and with any luck, maybe we'll find ourselves treated to Green Lantern programming better than this year's film adaptation (it has to be).

Even better, Friday's premiere contained a teaser trailer showcasing »

DC Comics February 2012 Solicitations

14 November 2011 2:00 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.

Shall we? Surely!

TV Review: Green Lantern: The Animated Series – “Beware My Power”

14 November 2011 3:26 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

When I first heard DC and Warner Bros were planning on doing a Green Lantern animated series I was a little skeptical. Especially because of the disappoint I had after seeing the Ryan Reynolds live action blockbuster earlier this summer, however my fears were soon alleviated when I heard who was the man producing the show; Bruce Timm. Bruce Timm is the man who gave us some of the best animation that DC has ever given us; Batman: The Animated series, Superman: The Animated series: Batman Beyond. Justice league and my own favourite Justice League Unlimited. Not to mention having a hand in every straight to DVD DC animated production for the last decade or so.

This is the first two episodes of the 1st season and I understand this is all we’ll get until late January 2012 when the 1st season will carry on »
