Battered

Larry is shopping at a supermarket. He wants some ice cream, but his favorite brand is being blocked by two women, one of them crying inconsolably, who refuse to move, no matter how much he asks them to. One of them informs him the crying lady is in a program for battered women and to please move away. Finally, trying to get what he wants ends in disaster as he knocks down all the ice cream in the refrigerator.

Meeting for breakfast with Jeff and Marty, Larry learns that Richard Lewis is seeing an exotic dancer with amazing breast endowment. Lewis enters and sits with them, but he is in a rush, trying to go to an audition. The three friends decide they must take the girlfriend's act soon. As Larry gets home, he sees a woman with a little dog, who has left him "a gift" on his sidewalk. He is upset the woman did not come prepared to scoop her dog's poop.

Visiting the restaurant for the breakfast place again, Larry is asked by a man working on his computer to please keep an eye on it, as he goes to the men's room. Having finished his coffee, and not seeing the man back, he asks a black man sitting nearby if he could watch the computer, as he must leave. A few days later, Larry encounters the computer man. Since it is gone, the man would like to know what he did. Larry mentions the black man, and the owner of the computer, figures it was stolen.

Larry receives a visit from Margaret, the leader of the battered women's group. She has come to demand an apology to the woman with the dog, and the crying woman in the supermarket. Both, it appears are in the program at a house in the neighborhood. Larry decides to go and do a good deed. Nothing he offers comes across an apology to the women. Noticing a heavy set woman complain about the laundry, he offers the group to come to his house.

Catching the show in which Richard Lewis' girlfriend is appearing, Larry notices a mole under her breast. When he meets Lewis and Stella, the exotic dancer, Larry suggests she had her mole examined to be sure all is OK. Larry comments on the size of her breast, something that Stella wants to reduce because of the pain it causes. Richard wants to kill his friend for offering such advice.

The women from the group come to Larry for their laundry. While they are tidy and get the job done, Larry becomes interested in whatever made Dale, the heavyset woman become part of the battered ladies. She does not fit the profile. As he presses the issue, Dale gives him a punch in the eye. Leon, now permanently living with Larry, takes him to a hospital. While being examined, the doctor takes an interest in what caused the injury. Leon, enters the room demanding money to get something to eat. The doctor does not fail to notice the way Leon punches the snack machine and he figures it was Leon who punched Larry.

As Larry is coming out of the house one day, he encounters the black man that is bringing him the computer that he was told to keep an eye on. Larry must go out for a moment, but invites the man to wait inside for him. The door rings. Two policemen at the door want to question the black man they figure is Leon. As they accuse him of assault and battery to Larry, they arrested for the harm inflicted on Larry.

Bryan Gordon directed the second installment of the 2011 series. The screenplay was a collaboration by Larry David, Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel. The episode touches on what appear to be observations Larry David has witnessed at one point, or another. There is the racial conflict in which an innocent man appears to be something he is not, wrongly accused because of the color of his skin. The idea of the battered women leads to Larry appearing to be a victim himself because what the doctor saw in the emergency room. Another issue centers on the idea of how one is asked, innocently, perhaps, to mind someone else's property, in Larry's case a computer and the complications when it is kept by an honest man that happened to be black.
