Bunch of Kunst Review

21 April 2017 8:42 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Greg Wetherall

Since emerging out of the industrial fog of Nottingham in the late noughties, Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn – aka Sleaford Mods – have charted an unlikely ascent. With rudimentary electronic soundscapes and blistering invectives, they have filled a void articulating the frustrations of the working class man and woman in Ukip heartland.

Now they are the subject of a documentary by erstwhile German music journalist Christine Franz in her debut film. The good news is that not only is Bunch of Kunst compelling in a gloriously roughshod, rambling fashion; it feels alive; bristling with energy and anger. Perceived as something of a cult concern, arched eyebrows greet the opening litany of glowing testaments from unlikely, high profile musical admirers.

From there, Franz consciously cuts back to the inauspicious, dingy rehearsal dens that remain the nexus for their work. Williamson wrestles with a chorus line and makes amendments to his lyrics, »

Last Week’S Podcast: Chelsea Handler Returns In Time to Take on Trump: ‘He’s Unfit to Do Anything’ — IndieWire’s Turn It On Podcast

Jenna Elfman thought she was done with network TV.

“Dharma and Greg” put her on the map in the late 1990s, but after that hit, the actress suffered through a series of disappointments, including “Courting Alex,” “Accidentally on Purpose,” “1600 Penn,” and “Growing Up Fisher.”

“I had written off network TV,” Elfman said. “I told my agents not to come to me with another network show. I work really hard and I do my best to promote the shows. I feel like mostly I do a good job. In any other field that would give you job security. Sometimes it’s like it doesn’t matter.”

But there was something she couldn’t resist about “Imaginary Mary,” her new ABC series from “The Goldbergs” executive producer Adam F. Goldberg. »

Chelsea Handler Investigates Whether or Not Donald Trump Got Syphilis in the 1980s — Watch

14 April 2017 7:36 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

On the latest episode of her weekly Netflix talk show, Chelsea Handler set out to investigate whether or not Donald Trump may have contracted syphilis in the 1980s, a theory brought up by the New Republic in February. In the article, Dr. Steven Beutler, an infectious disease specialist in San Bernardino, CA, suggested that Trump’s “bizarre, volatile behavior” could be due to untreated syphilis. According to Beutler, the President may have contracted the disease back in the ’80s when he led a promiscuous sexual life, according to what Trump himself said during an interview with Howard Stern back in 1997, when he admitted he used to sleep around with different women in the prior decade.

Willow Smith to Produce Two Female-Led Fantasy Projects

13 April 2017 11:01 AM, PDT | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Willow Smith: Smith’s Instagram account

Willow Smith is working on getting female-driven fantasy stories to TV and the big screen. The multi-hyphenate’s production shingle, Msfts Production, is teaming up with Cartel Entertainment for two upcoming projects. They’ve “acquired the film rights to Alwyn Hamilton’s Ya trilogy ‘Rebel of the Sands,’ and will also develop ‘Menencholy,’ an animated series based on Smith’s original book proposal,” Deadline writes. Both “Rebel of the Sands” and “Menencholy” center on young female protagonists who embark on epic, dangerous journeys.

While it’s yet to be confirmed, Smith may topline “Rebel of the Sands.” If she takes on the project’s lead role, she’ll play 17-year-old Amani, who flees her hometown and must travel “through the desert nation of Miraji, where mortals rule, but mythical beasts still roam the wild,” the source summarizes.

“Menencholy” follows Menen-Nin Khali, a young girl who has the ability to see into her past life. “She eventually finds herself at a mystical place called The Mystery School, where we follow her as she goes through a metamorphosis. In time Menen begins to accept the true power that lies within her and uses it to save herself and her town,” Deadline writes.

Smith commented, “The nonphysical, creative and, wild nature of a female heroine’s journey calls for a unique narrative structure that permeates the very foundation of the story. Enjoy the ride!”

“True Jackson, VP,” “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” and “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” are among Smith’s acting credits. The teen is also a singer and dancer. Her song “Whip My Hair” peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the music video for the breakout hit was nominated for Video of the Year at the Bet Awards.

“Parents tell boys to go out and get dirty, climb trees, and make mud pies, while girls have to stay in and play with dolls. And often it’s not the girls’ choice,” Smith has observed. It seems safe to assume that she’ll continue to support projects with multidimensional female characters and use her platform to advocate for girls and women. “When you’re famous, you have more of a voice to change the world. And that’s all I could ever ask for,” she’s said.

Willow Smith to Produce Two Female-Led Fantasy Projects was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story. »

Bokeh movie review: blurry, lonely lives at the end of the world

30 March 2017 10:22 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

MaryAnn’s quick take… A pretty blur of an apocalypse happens to pretty, blurry people in this dull Sf drama. This end of the world brought to you by the Reykjavik Tourist Board. I’m “biast” (pro): big science fiction fan

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Bokeh is a photographic term that, to quote Wikipedia, means “the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image.” I suppose that the philosophical application of that could be something like: “Life is what is happening in the foreground, and all the stuff that’s out of focus behind you may be pretty but isn’t as important.” And I suppose that that is meant to be advice to — or a lesson to be learned by — Jenai (Maika Monroe: Independence Day: Resurgence, The 5th Wave) and Riley »

SXSW Film Review: ‘The Disaster Artist’

13 March 2017 8:15 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Like such kindred spirits in quantity over quality as Tyler Perry and Joe Swanberg, James Franco has made a crapload of movies. Sooner or later, he was bound to deliver a good one. But who would have thought his adaptation of Greg Sestero’s “The Disaster Artist,” an outrageous blow-by-blow account of the actor-turned-author’s friendship with the aggressively untalented and infinitely enigmatic creator of one of the worst movies of this century — “The Room” writer-director-star Tommy Wiseau — would turn out to be the best and most professional entry on his own résumé?

That’s a claim not without caveats, mind you. The version that world premiered at the South by Southwest film festival was presented as a “work in progress” — where it killed to a room full of “The Room” obsessives, many of whom stuck around for a midnight screening of Wiseau’s disasterpiece. Oprah Winfrey Says She 'Wouldn't Have Been a Good Mom': 'I Don't Have the Patience'

24 February 2017 8:52 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Oprah Winfrey has no regrets about never becoming a mother. In fact, it was a conscious decision.

While the Queen of Talk -- who has been in a relationship with Stedman Graham since 1986 -- has never had children of her own, she tells the April issue of Good Housekeeping U.K. that she feels very maternal towards the women in her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. "I have 172 girls, and 20 are in college in the United States and use my home as their home base. It is more rewarding than I would ever have imagined," she gushes. "When people were pressuring me to get married and have children, I knew I was not going to be a person that ever regretted not having them, because I feel like I am a mother to the world’s children."
