Patty Jenkins, who directed the two Wonder Woman movies in the Dceu, reveals one disappointing update for the fans who were thinking about the third installment in the film series. Meanwhile, she has confirmed that she’s back to working on Rogue Squadron now.
Gal Gadot in and as Wonder Woman
Patty Jenkins’ 2017 film starring Gal Gadot as the DC superhero Wonder Woman was a box office hit, prompting a sequel, which was released in 2020. However, the sequel could not perform as expected as the movie only managed to gross $166 million worldwide (per The Numbers) against a production budget of $200 million.
Suggested“You really wanna do this?”: Patty Jenkins Had Warner Bros. Come Crawling Back For Wonder Woman Despite Leaving Her Hanging For Over a Decade
Jenkins is now shifting her focus to the starfighter-based film Rogue Squadron. But one thing is sure, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer taking flight.

“Salem’s Lot” Will Skip Theaters to Stream Exclusively
The long-in-development film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” is being made, after all, but will no longer premiere in theaters, opting for a Max-exclusive streaming premiere this year with an official date to be announced later.
Originally intended for a September 2022 theatrical release, New Line Cinema pushed the film to 2023 citing the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown for delays before removing it from its release calendar entirely. King’s 1975 novel was first adapted for the screen with CBS’s 1979 miniseries starring David Soul.
“Salem’s Lot” is written and directed by Gary Dauberman (“Annabelle”). The new version will see Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) return to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot looking to come up with an idea for a new novel but discovers his hometown’s residents are becoming vampires.

The ‘very male-gazed orientation’ of the 1980s version of Red Sonja will be a thing of the past in the remake, says Matilda Lutz.
Fantasy adventure Red Sonja emerged in 1985, three years after 1982’s Conan The Barbarian and around the time of the unexpectedly daft Conan The Destroyer. Red Sonja, directed by Destroyer’s Richard Fleischer, cashed in on that series’ popularity and also featured its star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside 80s icon Brigitte Nielsen who starred as the titular female warrior.
There has been talk of a reboot of the movie for years, but it seems to be a project that has taken forever to bring to the screen – and we’re not just talking about the hold-ups caused by strikes and pandemics. For well over a decade, various attempts have been made to get the film up and running, with creative talent such as Robert Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, Simon West,...

Conan O’Brien’s new international travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go will premiere on Max on Thursday, April 18, the comedian, podcaster and longtime late-night host unveiled today at SXSW. All four episodes will be available to stream.
Max and Conan announced the show last spring. “My fans around the globe never asked me to visit them, so I did,” the Emmy-winner quipped at the time.
It follows Conan as he travels far and wide, setting himself down in Norway, Thailand, Argentina and Ireland, to meet some of the people he had previously interviewed for his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan — a spin-off of the popular podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
Some trailers and teasers of the global goofiness have emerged but today’s session “fireside chat” in a packed ballroom at the Austin Convention Center, rolled out “never before seen” footage — of him skewering stale food...

“Conan O’Brien Must Go” is finally going. The long-in-the-works project, announced last year during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfronts presentation, has been given a premiere date: Thursday, April 18 on Max.
O’Brien announced the premiere date of the show’s four episodes on Saturday at SXSW, during an on-stage conversation with comedian Nick Kroll.
The “Conan O’Brien Must Go” open is narrated by filmmaker Werner Herzog. “I can not confirm or deny the identity of who that person is,” O’Brien quipped.
“Conan O’Brien Must Go” is inspired by O’Brien’s podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan” (in which he chats with listeners from around the globe), and follows the host as he meets up with fans in Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland. Conaco produces the show, with O’Brien and Jeff Ross as executive producers.
O’Brien said the production would spend between a week and 10 days shooting in a country.

It is the manga artist who creates the manga, but it is the voice actors who help in bringing out the true emotions of the characters through their voices. Two of the most iconic characters to be given voice are Son Goku and Vegeta. There are instances when their rivalry came out to real life instead of being reel-based. Schwarzenegger's reluctance to do sequels like Commando 2 or True Lies 2 is admirable, but perplexing compared to The Expendables. Despite skipping The Expendables 4, Arnold's loyalty to the franchise is commendable, even if it didn't showcase his talents well. Arnie's rejected Predator cameo might have been a better fit for his iconic status than The Expendables, despite the fun he had with friends.
The Expendables broke an unlikely sequel streak for Arnold Schwarzenegger, and not in a positive way. Following the success of the original Terminator, there was a run of incredible Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies. The star had a knack for picking projects with great hooks, and having them tailored to his unique star branding. From Commando to Predator and even the lesser-sung likes of Eraser, Arnie always had an eye for concepts that tempted audiences into the theater.

Despite numerous adaptations, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Conan remains the most iconic and successful portrayal on screen. Conan's core identity as a wandering adventurer encountering various challenges remains consistent in most adaptations. While some interpretations of Conan have fallen short, bold adaptations like "She Is Conann" have successfully refreshed the character's story.
Robert E. Howard's iconic character Conan has been adapted for film and television on several occasions, yet some interpretations have been significantly more successful than others. Despite being a staple of sword and sorcery fantasy fiction since the 1930s, it wasn't until Arnold Schwarzenegger assumed the role in the 80s that fans got to see the character fully realized on screen. In the years since, six further adaptations have arrived – each with its own strengths and flaws.

Older fantasy cartoon shows, like Visionaries and The Pirates of Dark Water, deserve more recognition for their unique storytelling and world-building. Animation is often pigeonholed as children's shows, but series like Gargoyles and Xiaolin Showdown prove that cartoons can be rich and complex. Infinity Train, despite its critical acclaim, struggled to gain a large audience but stands out for its creativity, emotional depth, and relatable characters.
Even though they went unnoticed, many amazing fantasy cartoon television shows deserve more recognition. Whether they're older series from when animation was first evolving as a genre or more recent shows that have been overshadowed by more popular series, these shows are iconic enough to have generated a cult following. Combining fantasy and animation can be risky in terms of getting the audience's attention, but they open many doors for art style and storytelling. Newer fantasy series have been gaining popularity, so older shows should also get their due.

When I was a younger man, Conan O'Brien was the king of late night. I'm not talking in terms of ratings; I'm talking in terms of popularity among my peers. Jay Leno was boring and unfunny, Letterman was once great but had lost a step, and Conan was the absolute best. His style of humor, which leaned into the absurd, made his late-night talk show "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" worth staying up for.
While Conan flourished on his own talk show on NBC, in a timeslot that once belonged to Letterman before Letterman moved to CBS, there was one gig he coveted: hosting "The Tonight Show." Despite the presence of the hacky Jay Leno, "The Tonight Show" remained a storied institution; it was legendary, and Conan O'Brien very badly wanted to host it someday. And he did! You might have memory-holed this, or never learned it, but there was...

Villains have historically been an integral part of fiction, with so-called dark lords standing out as one of the best tropes for establishing a foe. These representations of evil typically have various powers, from a mastery of magic to being born of Hell itself. One of the best aspects of this type of villain is how they can represent evil itself, and present viewers with an undeniably evil figure who must be defeated.
Dark lords are one of the strongest ways of writing a fun, alluring villain, characters often written with high power levels, charisma, and intelligence. Indeed, some of these foes are as synonymous with their films as the heroes themselves and are often remembered for their love of evil. The archetype may not be as morally complex as some key villains of cinema, but it remains popular for good reason.

Satellite audio firm SiriusXM is trimming its global workforce by about 3% in an effort to become “more efficient, agile, and flexible,” CEO Jennifer Witz wrote in a memo to employees.
The company last year unveiled a significant revamp of its app and has made a series of talent deals in a push into podcasts.
“We made significant progress on the transformation of our business in 2023, but we have just begun to scratch the surface of what is possible here at SiriusXM,” Witz wrote in the memo. “To continue on our path to future subscriber growth and sustain our company’s success as the competitive landscape evolves, it’s imperative that we become even more efficient, agile, and flexible. Therefore, today we are making several organizational changes, including the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles, which will allow us to move faster and collaborate more effectively in support of our long-term objectives.

Those who don’t follow professional wrestling may not appreciate just how tough and grueling it is. It isn’t enough to be on the road 200+ days a year, getting dropped on your head or your back every night, dealing with injuries, losing your spot on the roster, and worse. If you’ve seen films like The Iron Claw, The Wrestler, or the old Beyond the Mat documentary, you know that professional wrestling is grind like no other.
But the other aspect that goes underappreciated is how much wrestling relies on acting. If you have any hope of making it big, it isn’t enough to be able to do a tope suicida or Texas Cloverleaf on the way to a 5-star mat classic. You have to be able to act your role, day in and day out. Often, you have to act live, in front of an audience of thousands,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's cult-classic Conan the Barbarian has been reimagined in ultimate queer-cinema glory. The Legend of Conan may not be happening, but it seems the cinematic legend lives on in other ways. Enter She Is Conann (originally titled just "Conann"), a multi-language new feature film that quickly becomes a bold LGBTQ+ celebration. Mainstream viewers might quickly exit, but if you stick with it, experimental filmmaker Bertrand Mandico's new feature also evolves into a symbolic statement on the art world, especially in relation to iconic figures (both real and fictitious).

Japan’s box office climbed 4 percent to a post-pandemic high of $1.5 billion (221.5 billion yen) in 2023, driven again by a strong slate of anime and a steady return to theaters. Hollywood films maintained the same market share of around 31 percent as the previous year, though a very weak yen reduced earnings in dollar terms.
The Japanese currency falling toward the 150-mark against the greenback means that when converted, the annual box office fell from last year’s $1.64 billion even though takings in yen climbed from 213 billion yen. Imported fare (676 films) took a total of $452 million, versus $995 million for 555 domestic productions.
The figures were announced in Tokyo on Tuesday by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, locally referred to as Eiren.
Topping the 2023 box office rankings was The First Slam Dunk, an anime from Toei based on a hit basketball manga with $107 million, followed by The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($95 million...

Jake Gyllenhaal finally revealed the correct pronunciation of his last name: "Yeel-en-hyaal" on Conan. Despite frequent mispronunciations, Gyllenhaal has maintained an easygoing attitude towards the topic. Gyllenhaal's laid-back response to mispronunciations adds another layer to his public persona.
Jake Gyllenhaal is an A-list Hollywood actor, but have fans been getting the pronunciation of his name wrong for decades? Gyllenhaal's journey to stardom began in the 1999 film October Sky, where he played a young man aspiring to be a rocket scientist, a performance that showcased an early ability to bring depth and sensitivity to his characters. However, it was his portrayal of the troubled teenager Donnie in the 2001 dark teen movie Donnie Darko that truly set him apart in the industry. This role demonstrated his willingness to delve into complex, unconventional characters in movies with unique concepts.

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
To start the Year in Review I’ll start with looking at sales by product type and then touch upon some general themes at the end.
Marvel Comics
2023 for me has undoubtedly been all about Marvel with back issue sales accounting for around 60% of the year’s sales. I’ve been staggered by the continued demand for Marvel back issues, especially titles from the late 80’s and early 90’s that I can remember hitting the shelves. Many of these issues, especially the likes of X-Men and Spiderman had print runs into the hundreds of thousands every month so you would think that there is an abundance of copies out there.

Golden Globes host Jo Koy’s monologue was received poorly by both those in the room and many watching at home, but fellow comedians shared sympathy for their fellow comic — while also expressing discontent with his choice to blame his writers for the widely panned performance.
Comedian Laurie Kilmartin, who also hosts a podcast about the craft of comedy and wrote on “Conan,” was one of the prominent insider voices rising to Koy’s defense.
“This is a Terrible gig, this audience sucks,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the job Koy himself noted he was just hired for 10 days prior. “They’re famous, nervous and humorless, and 10 days is genuinely not enough time to write about 500 jokes, which is how many you need to find 15 suitable jokes.”

Disney's John Carter is a 2012 adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs books that infamously bombed and has not been revisited. Disney's John Carter has a cult reputation, and holds up well against more recent blockbusters. A reboot or new incarnation of John Carter is overdue, and could open steampunk science fiction up to a much bigger audience.
Failures are a part of movies, and there will always be films that never find an audience. But no film thus far in Hollywood history lost like John Carter, a 2012 adaptation of the seminal Edgar Rice Burroughs' novels that ranks as one of the biggest box office disasters of all time. It's doubly painful because the film itself is actually quite good, and does justice to Burroughs in a way that got missed amid its disastrous theatrical run. In some ways, it would be easier had it simply been a bad movie, or...

Late Night viewers may not have initially understood Conan O’Brien’s brand of humor, but there was an important demographic who did: college kids.
In Vanity Fair‘s oral history of Late Night with Conan O’Brien for the show’s 30th anniversary, its cast and crew detailed how the college demographic ended up inadvertently saving the series from cancellation.
Months after the show premiered in September 1993, producer Jeff Ross received a call from NBC execs saying the show was in “imminent danger of being canceled.” Greg Kinnear was rumored to take over for O’Brien, as the gamble of hiring an unknown name to host Late Night had seemingly not paid off. He later said that he was a “huge history buff and nerd,” including on the history of the White House, and chatted with reporters about the briefing room itself, noting that it used to be the location of an indoor pool. During John F. Kennedy’s administration, O’Brien noted, his father Joseph Kennedy had a Venetian mural installed on the walls. He said that the mural is now in the John F. Despite their rivalry, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a playful relationship and have appeared in movies together like The Expendables. Stallone regrets accepting the lead role in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot because Schwarzenegger tricked him into thinking he was interested in the film. Schwarzenegger could have excelled in roles like Barney Ross in The Expendables or Rocky Balboa, bringing his distinct style and persona to the characters.
While Sylvester Stallone has had plenty of hugely memorable roles, it is hard to deny that there are some acting parts that his oldest rival, Arnold Schwarzenegger, would have done better. The two are both known for their action-packed films and, despite having unique personas and acting styles, it makes sense to compare the two to each other. While earlier in each of their careers the animosity between the two would lead to direct attacks on one another in the media,...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,“ which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC/Fox Network.
In the eighties and nineties, studios were never shy about taking mature intellectual properties and cashing in on them by giving them their own animated spinoffs for kids. Among the rather extensive list were direct G-rated adaptations like “Rambo,” “Conan,” “Ace Ventura,” and even “Police Academy.” One of the most notable, and more widely celebrated adaptations was of Tim Burton’s 1988 hit film Beetlejuice. While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the “Ghost with the Most” for the animated series.
Aimed more for the 8-12 Saturday morning cartoon demographic, the animated show thankfully stuck true to much of what made the movie so entertaining.

Arnold Schwarzenegger recalls working with a coach to shed his now-iconic Austrian accent. Bursting onto the Hollywood scene in the early 1980s, Schwarzenegger is now known as one of the quintessential action stars. The actor, whose accent is instantly-recognizable, is best known for roles in hit movies like Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Commando, Predator, and Total Recall, among a host of others.

“Saturday Night Live” returns for its third show of the season on Saturday, hosted by Nate Bargatze. And if you’re here, it means you’re not entirely sure who that is. But odds are, you’ve actually seen him before.
Bargatze is a comedian from Tennessee, and he’s appeared on several of the late night talk shows with his standup act. He started out on “Conan” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and went on to be part of Fallon’s Clean Cut Comedy Tour in 2013.
From there, his career expanded. He’s since had three standup specials on Netflix, the most recent one — “The Greatest Average American” — earned him a Grammy nomination last year for Best Comedy Album. This year, Bargatze filmed “Hello World,” released on Prime Video.
That said, even Bargatze himself is getting a kick out of the fact that he’s hosting “SNL” this week.

With only a couple more months left in 2023, will it be the movie year of the toy? Considering the Barbie box office bonanza…probably. That’s especially true if you throw video games into that category. We’ve seen those Super Mario Brothers, a nifty true-life thriller on the making of Tetris, another non-fiction sports flick involving the motor-racing world of Gran Turismo. And now we go from brightly colored pixel ‘shrooms to whirring-blade-fueled horror. Really, a game that elicits fear as you rack up the points? Oh yeah, this one is so popular there has already been at least one cinema rip-off (using those Saturday morning funsters The Banana Splits which this official fan club member did not appreciate). It’s kinda’ how The Sword And The Sorcerer beat Conan to the multiplex by a few weeks in 1982. Well, now here comes the “real deal”, based on the gaming smash,...

Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is making his “Saturday Night Live” debut this weekend as the host of the third episode of Season 49. He will be joined by musical guest Foo Fighters, who were supposed to perform last season until the writers’ strike postposed the final three episodes of NBC’s late night sketch comedy program. In a new promo video (watch above), Bargatze is told that he needs to shed his “nice guy” image by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker, so he goes full-Hulk by vandalizing the iconic “SNL” studio.
“You know what your problem is? You’re too nice,” Dismukes tells him. “Mr. Nice Guy. You gotta be Hollywood, more edgy.”
Bargatze contemplates those words and ultimately replies, “More Hollywood? I can do that.”
New cast member Chloe Troast appears and hands over some “welcome coffee with simple syrup,” to which Bargatze takes the cup and aggressively throws it against the stage.

Patrick Stewart recalls a touching encounter with Vivien Leigh while watching Gone With the Wind together, as she became emotional reminiscing about her late co-stars. Vivien Leigh, despite being relatively unknown at the time, delivered one of the greatest performances in classic Hollywood, winning an Academy Award for her role as Scarlett O'Hara. The experience of sitting next to Leigh during the film highlights Stewart's long-standing career in the entertainment industry and solidifies his status as a legend, much like Leigh herself.

He’s best known today as the star of Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men, but long before taking on his iconic roles in genre TV and films, Stewart tackled a very different kind of acting, appearing in Shakespearian drama on the British stage.
