Lena Dunham’s next TV project has found its star. Entertainment Weekly confirms that Jennifer Garner will lead “Camping,” a comedy about an outdoorsy weekend gone awry. Dunham is writing and will exec produce with frequent collaborator Jenni Konner.
Garner will star as the tightly-wound Kathryn, who plans a camping trip to celebrate her husband’s 45th birthday. Per the series description, “When the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend, and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten. Plus, bears.”
“Camping” is based on Julia Davis’ UK series of the same name.

Amazon is developing the live-action drama series Conan, based on Robert E. Howard’s original books about the fantasy icon, our sister site Deadline reports. This new adaptation will reportedly stick more closely to Howard’s books, telling the story of a tribal warrior who “wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.”

Eva Longoria has new series in the works. According to Deadline, the multi-hyphenate has two hour-long dramas in development at Fox through her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner. Both are written by women.
Currently untitled, one project centers on four female friends in La. Emily Fox (“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”) penned the script, and both she and Longoria are among the show’s exec producers. The series’ protagonists are professionally successful but find their lives lacking. “They all enjoy the many perks of their high-flying lifestyles — but there’s no such thing as having it all, at least not all at the same time. The Athena Film Festival has named director, producer, and writer J.J. Abrams its Leading Man. Abrams will receive the fest’s 2018 Athena Leading Man Award in honor of his “extraordinary career and continued support and advocacy of women in the entertainment industry,” a press release has announced.
With the female protagonists of his shows “Felicity” and “Alias” and his casting of Daisy Ridley as the central character of the new “Star Wars” trilogy, Abrams has long been a champion of women in entertainment. He’s also been an ally for women behind the camera.
“I am deeply humbled to be recognized by the Athena Film Festival. Any good I’ve done has been achieved because I have worked alongside women, and I share my gratitude with all of them for being honored with this award,” Abrams stated.
