Positive attitude

Sixteen months have elapsed since the end of the last season. New Orleans is still living the nightmare after the devastation of Katrina. There are signs that things might be improving, but not much seems to be working they way most people would like it to be.

Toni Bernette is still mourning for her late husband while putting a brave face against adversity. To add to her worries, Sofia has not adjusted well to the loss of her father. She has, in a way, inherited his anger at what she is seeing around her. She even picks up after her dad's rantings and even downloads it to YouTube, something that Toni discovers unwillingly.

Delmond has gone to New York where he is seen playing at Jazz at Lincoln Center's theater songs from his latest CD. The audience is receptive to what he has to offer. After the concert, he mingles with a crowd of sophisticated New Yorkers where the conversation turns to New Orleans. Delmond takes issue with the way these people have no idea of what really hit his city.

Annie has been making progress. She has been touring with a band in Connecticut, where the reception to the musicians could not be better. When she returns, she goes to Davis' apartment. She is pleased that he has "cleaned the house" awaiting her return, not realizing the job he really did. Davis has been working on the radio at a late hour. The head of programming is not exactly happy with his choice of songs he plays. He wants more of a variety, not exactly what Davis had in mind.

LaDonna is seen in bed with Larry Williams. The reconstruction of her lounge is over. She owes a lot to Riley and the Texas man that did the job. She is visited by them that have brought a cousin, Nelson, who wants to capitalize in the city's booming construction business.

In New York, Jeanette has found a place in a fancy restaurant run by the tyrannical chef, Enrico Brulard, who is a demanding man. Jeanette is living with a few male roommates, clearly trying to stick it out in a city that does not appreciate her. She shows signs of being unhappy working for a man whose demands are totally insane.

Anthony Hemingway directed this episode of "Treme". It is the start of the new season and the creators have maintained the atmosphere that was created from the start. The screenplay was written by the creator of the series, Eric Overmyer who collaborated with Anthony Bourdain in the story.

The principals are all back with a few exceptions. Melissa Leo, Khandi Alexander, Steve Zahn, Rob Brown, Kim Dickens, David Morse, India Ennenga, and Wendell Pierce among the large cast.
