Niko And The Sword Of Light Comic Book Launches July 21

July 21 just got even bigger for fans of Niko and the Sword of Light

Not only does Amazon's all-new Niko and the Sword animated series launch on Prime Video on the 21st, but Amazon has now announced that fans can rev up to watch the series by enjoying an original Niko and the Sword of Light comic book -- for free. Launching the same day as the series, the comic book will be available as a free digital download exclusively on Comixology. 

The comic book is written by acclaimed kids television writer Rob Hoegee (Generator Rex, League of Super Evil, Storm HawksTeen Titans), Ernie Altbacker (Legend QuestNexo KnightsGreen Lantern: The Animated Series), and Matt Wayne (Ben 10 Omniverse, Justice League Action). Hoegee is the showrunner, executive producer and writer for the animated series while Altbacker and Wayne are writers on the series. Cartoon Network picks up new Mega Man animated series

Carton Network has announced that it has picked up the U.S. rights to Dhx Media’s new Mega Man animated series, which is being written and executive produced by Man of Action Entertainment (Ben 10, Generator Rex).

“We are thrilled that Cartoon Network has picked up the new Mega Man series for its U.S. viewers,” said Ken Faier, executive producer at Dhx Media. “This deal points to the solid demand for our original kids’ content, and highlights the strength of our strategy of collaborating with leading industry peers such as Dentsu and Man of Action to refresh evergreen properties for today’s kids. Further, we believe Mega Man’s incredible heritage and proven popularity also positions the brand extremely well for longer term consumer product opportunities.”

Chris Columbus attached to produce graphic novel ‘I Kill Giants’ adaptation

/Film reported that Columbus is attached to adapt I Kill Giants, based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Joe Kelly and J.M. Niimura. Oscar winner Anders Walter is directing, and Treehouse Pictures will finance.

Originally published as a limited series between 2008 and 2009, I Kill Giants centers around a young outsider named Barbara Thorson. Her inability to fit in makes her life difficult, and she copes by escaping into a fantasy in which giants are real and it’s her job to stop them.

Walter is known for his 2013 film Helium, which won Best Live-Action Short at the 2014 Academy Awards. According to the site, Kelly will write the script as well as produce. He is part of the Man of Action Entertainment writers collective that also includes Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, and Steven T. Seagle.

This past week I had the pleasure of interviewing Jacob Semahn, the writer on the upcoming supernatural mystery series Goners from Image Comics. Before working on Goners, Semahn was a producer on American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. He is currently working in animation for Man of Action and has written screenplays for Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man shows. The basic premise of Goners (from the Image Comics solicit) is a “bold new historical fantasy mystery about a very peculiar family, the Latimer Family, who have been humanity’s lone defense against paranormal assault throughout history”.

Amazon Orders Pilots for Five Kids Shows
Amazon Studios has announced it has ordered three animated and two live-action pilots of kids shows for the third installment of its kids pilot season, which will debut in early 2015 on Amazon Instant Video.

The shows will debut alongside a new version of the previously announced “Sara Solves It” pilot. Keeping with the Amazon business model, these first episodes go live for customers to watch and provide feedback to help execs decide which pilots become full series.
