When the Sheriff has Nick tied up and is revealing the type of shark he has waiting for him in the water below, he describes it as a 'Tiger Shark'. When Nick is lowered into the water he sees a 'Sand Tiger Shark' which despite its gruesome appearance is not dangerous to humans and is not one of the four species identified as a man eating shark.
Director David R. Ellis wanted to release the film under the title, "Untitled 3D Shark Thriller".
Not screened in advance for critics.
The first shark movie released in 3D ever since Jaws 3-D (1983) 28 years prior.

The movie's tagline, "Terror runs deep", is identical to Peter Benchley's "The Beast", which came out over 10 years earlier
The front grill on Dennis and Red's truck reads "THE MOUT". Most likely intended to reflect the Louisiana accent.

This is in fact the second shark themed movie scored by composer Graeme Revell. His first one was Open Water.

The animatronics sharks were built by Edge Innovations who previously built sharks for movies such as Deep Blue Sea (1999) Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and even the Orca in Free Willy (1993) according to Walt Conti the head of Edge Innovations, two models for each shark were built, one "Swimmer" and one "Attacker" "Each of which required very different internal mechanisms, sharks are these total contrast of stealthy, cruising, lurking and those intense bursts of power, we split those two behaviors into two different types of models and optimized each to do one of those things best" Conti said during an interview.

Malik foreshadows his arm being bitten off when they first arrive to the lake house and he sticks his hand in the fish on display on the mantle and pretends he is being attacked.
