"A Life Standing" is outstanding!
18 June 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Writer-director Robbie Reilly has produced a brilliant short excursion here. In an age concerned with the debate about "no child left behind" legislation, and the importance of a child's satisfaction in the act of learning, here the focus is on the teacher, Robert Owens (played masterfully by Robbie Reilly.) Owens is much like James Hilton's Mr. Chips: he is distinguished by his concern for human welfare. Without giving away too much of the story, it is fair to say that Robert Owens learns as much from his students as they do from him. Owens' lessons involve humanitarianism, honor, courage and compassion. Robert Owens is a true professional in the sense that he answers to a higher social and ethical responsibility. The temptation of making a killing in the banking business is set aside here by Owens' own solidarity and integrity. Exceptional performance by Robbie Reilly, also excellent turn by John Charles, "A Life Standing" is certainly outstanding in every respect. Enthusiastic ten out of ten!
