Anghus Houvouras on the trailer for Star Trek Beyond

First impressions. They’re so important, especially in the world of blockbuster cinema where the marketplace is saturated with high budgeted fare looking to snap its fingers and gain your attention for a fleeting moment. It’s been awhile since the wretched Star Trek Beyond trailer first hit the internet like a sack full of used diapers to the side of our head. It was late December. Everyone is basking in the warm glow of Star Wars and getting excited over new trailers for Batman v Superman and Independence Day: Resurgence.

'Eddie the Eagle' Super Bowl Commercial Goes for the Gold

4 February 2016 11:23 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, a report surfaced teasing some of the possible movie-related trailers that will air during Super Bowl 50 this Sunday on CBS. While none of these were confirmed by the respective studios, the report claimed that 20th Century Fox was planning "on-the-ground events" for movies such as Eddie the Eagle, X-Men: Apocalypse and Independence Day: Resurgence, which hinted that we may in fact see new footage from these movies during the big game. Just three days before the Super Bowl, 20th Century Fox has officially released its trailer for Eddie the Eagle, which has a football twist.

While the 30-second spot does include footage from the movie, the video reveals that several past and present NFL stars were treated to an advanced screening of Eddie the Eagle, with three iconic quarterbacks offering their thoughts on this true story adaptation. Schumer and Rogen Unite America in Bud Light Super Bowl Commerical

3 February 2016 1:25 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It used to be common practice for Super Bowl ads to actually debut during the big game itself, but things have changed in recent years. It's not at all uncommon for companies to release their commercials early online, and this week we have already seen Ryan Reynolds' Hyundai Super Bowl ad, where the actor has been cloned several times. The tradition continues today with Bud Light unveiling their 60-second ad, which features comedians Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer unveiling their campaign for the "Bud Light Party."

Since 2016 is an election year, this ad is even more timely, especially considering how divided Americans have become on several issues. The "Bud Light Party" plans to unify America through beer, with the ad highlighting their campaign, including their huge "caucus," and Seth Rogen reciting a memorable quote from the 1996 action classic Independence Day. Take a look at the comedy stars' official campaign platform below. »

Astronaut Comedy The Something Recruits Seth Rogen, Bill Hader And Zach Galifianakis

3 February 2016 7:58 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Comedic trio Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and Zach Galifianakis have enlisted for astronaut flick The Something, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Centering on a band of wayward explorers lost in space, the pitch comes by way of Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street, Grudge Match), who is poised to make his directorial debut with the space-set comedy. Rogen will have a hand in producing The Something under his Point Grey Pictures banner, while Universal will handle distribution now that the project has been greenlit.

Cast astray in the inky blackness of space, Rothman’s feature will find Rogen, Hader and Galifianakis’ astronauts marooned among the stars for years, until they happen across another ship. But Event Horizon this is not, and given that the writer-director has cast such an impressive trio, it’s little wonder why Universal acted quickly to issue the go-ahead. It marks something of a reunion for Rogen and Hader, »

Latest Ghostbusters Images Feature Paul Feig’s Scientists In Regular Attire

Sony Pictures is beginning to dust off the proton packs and marketing machine in anticipation of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, with today bringing forth a fresh batch of images featuring his supernatural heroines in regular attire. There’s also a shot of a bespectacled Chris Hemsworth, assuming the receptionist role made famous by Annie Potts across the original films.

Set to release in the thick of summer blockbuster season, Sony has bestowed a fair amount of confidence in Feig’s gender-swapped vision, though considering the cast that the Bridesmaids director has assembled, we can hardly blame the studio. Thrusting Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon onto the streets of New York, the movie will see their brilliant scientists ready to get a hold on the otherworldly chaos.

"Area 51" On Netflix

2 February 2016 6:56 AM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Recall the sensation the 'found footage' thriller "Paranormal Activity" created in 2009, with many believing the film was the best original horror film in years and director Oren Peli hailed as a major new voice in the sub-genre:

But in the six years following the release of the original "Paranormal Activity," Peli avoided directing and instead focused on producing a number of similar projects - until 2015, when he released "Area 51" to little fanfare, receiving mediocre reviews and, according to Box Office Mojo, earned less than $10,000 domestic at the box office (?!) A shocking low for the encore of a director perceived as an innovator less than a decade ago.

But now the film is available on Netflix, getting another shot with a wide audience.

The idea of 'Area 51' as a secret government establishment related to a crashed alien spacecraft has become cliché over time, even though 'alien conspiracy' »

These Movies Will Have Super Bowl TV Spots, But Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Won't

29 January 2016 12:58 PM, PST | | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Deadpool is set to have a major presence at this year's Super Bowl with both a TV spot and Ryan Reynolds commandeering a food truck on Friday night to hand out chimichangas. The press junket will also take place in a nearby bar which is being renamed "Sister Margaret's Bar" after the one in the movie; there, Reynolds and T.J. Miller will take part in interviews, play darts, and serve drinks. The trade goes on to confirm that cast members from Independence Day: Resurgence and X-Men: Apocalypse will be on hand, while it's thought that both of those are getting TV spots too (they're two of 2016's biggest releases after all).  Universal are likely bringing The Hunstman's Winter War (even though online speculation points to Bourne 5), while Paramount will have some new footage from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows to show off. »

That said, there are some interesting ‘stand alone’ films and animations to look out for too as we eagerly await the year’s silver screen offerings.

DC Comics’ answer to Marvel

The ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ series provides hit after hit for the Disney subsidiary Marvel Studios, but its old comic rival DC is about to compete with a potentially huge release. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars two popular superheroes, and is the first of several titles scheduled by DC over the coming years. Shortly after ‘Batman v Superman’ hits the screens, Marvel’s next release will be in cinemas – Captain America: Civil War – is predicted to possibly be its biggest film yet. If it achieves its »

Will Smith Talks About His Character’s Fate In ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’

With 2016 now upon us, many keen, enthusiastic moviegoers across the globe have began to steadily increase their excitement for the incredible year of releases we have ahead of us. However, in age of unlimited blockbusters and CGI-saturated tentpoles, one thing that viewers are not crying out for is more alien invasion films.

Despite the fact that audiences have been subject to an abundance of alien-themed productions over the past few years, 20th Century Fox is still attempting to cash in on their success through this summer’s Independence Day 2 (aka Independence Day: Resurgence). The belated sequel to the (now twenty year old) 90’s smash hit will try to capitalize on the nostalgia and widespread guilty pleasure viewers feel for the original film.

However, the sequel will have the difficult task of achieving this without the help of its previous leading man, Will Smith. Of course, the first Independence Day helped »
