Open with Sam and Finn talking (Cory Monteith
) about dating girls who won't put out. Finn says his strategy to "cool off" is thinking of hitting that mailman with his car. Sam looks over at Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones
) picking a wedgie and thinks he may have found his muse.
Kurt (Chris Colfer
) is still getting viciously bullied by Karofsky.
Puck (Mark Salling
) returns from juvenile hall. Will (Matthew Morrison
) tells the kids the two teams they will face at sectionals are a private school's a cappella group (the Warblers) and a continuing education program composed of elderly people getting GEDs. To get them in the competitive mood, Will splits them into a boys vs. girls tournament.
Puck says he's going to take care of Artie (Kevin McHale
). He got out of juvi early by agreeing to perform community service. Instead of picking up trash, Puck told his probation officer he had a crippled friend he could help.
Will notices Kurt's trouble with Karofsky and asks if he can help. Will thinks it is starting to bother him. Kurt says being the only out kid is a problem, but even worse is that he doesn't feel challenged.
Will changes the lesson to include the team leaving their comfort zone: The boys need to do song traditionally sung by girls and the girls should go for classic rock. Kurt has a typically flamboyant suggestion, but the rest of the guys tell him to go visit the private school and do some recon.
The next time Sam and Quinn (Dianna Agron
) fool around, he imagines Beiste wearing a nightie and chopping meat.
Quinn goes to Sue (Jane Lynch
) concerned her boyfriend is picturing Beiste when they make-out. Sue thinks she can use this to her advantage and wants Quinn to spread the word.
Puck and Artie perform Bob Marley
's "One Love" with a guitar case open. Puck does a little intimidating and they end up with $300. Artie mentions still having feelings for Brittany (Heather Morris
) and Puck suggests they double date with Santana (Naya Rivera
Pretending to be a new student, Kurt visits the private school in order to spy on the Warblers. Kurt finds out the Warblers are rock stars at the school. Kurt watches them perform Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Kurt is impressed, particularly with lead singer Blaine (Darren Criss
Rumors are making their way around school that Beiste helps cool you off. Quinn pushes Sam about Beiste, suggesting maybe he has a thing for his coach. Beiste hears part of the conversation and wonders what is happening.
Will learns how guys have been using Beiste's image. He's upset because she is an outsider like them. Will wants them to stop and assures them Beiste can never know.
Blaine and two other Warblers take Kurt aside, clearly aware he was spying. Kurt learns how open their school is regarding homosexuals and confides in Blaine about how bad things have been for him with Karofsky. Blaine suggests he make a stand, something he was never able to do.
Puck brings Artie to the see the girls. Using Puck's tricks (basically treating the girls like crap), they are able to secure a double date at Breadsticks.
Beiste asks Will why the kids have been talking about her. He breaks down and tells her. She seems very, very hurt.
Artie tries to use Puck's tactics at dinner, pretending not to be interested in Brittany. Afterwards Puck wants to dine and dash. When Artie sticks around and pays, Puck tells him he's cutting him off and leaves with the girls.
The girls perform a mash-up of The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" and Bon Jovi
's "Living on a Prayer." During the song, Kurt gets a text from Blaine which reads: "Courage." Becky comes in with a note from Sue - she wants to meet Will in the auditorium.
Will arrives at the auditorium and Sue is ecstatic with news. Beiste has resigned, thereby restoring her entire budget. She credits Will's kids with being mean and driving her out.
Karofsky shoves Kurt into a locker. This time, Kurt follows him into an empty locker and screams he isn't going to change no matter how Karofsky treats him. They begin screaming at each other before Karofsky suddenly kisses Kurt. Kurt pulls away in shock and Karofsky leaves.
Will tells the kids what happened with Beiste. Quinn finally figures out what Sam was doing. Figgins (Iqbal Theba
) comes in and asks to see Will and Puck in his office.
Puck needs to find some legitimate community service by the following day or he's back to juvi. Puck stars to panic at the thought of going back.
Kurt and Blaine go to see Karofsky outside of school. Karofsky denies anything happens and shoves Blaine into a wall. Kurt is upset because Karofsky was the first person to ever kiss him.
Will goes to see Beiste while she cleans out her office. He tells her he understands what she's going through, re-living the horrors of high school at work. She's straight and has had no luck with guys. "I've never been kissed, Will," she says. "I'm 40 and I haven't taken those baby steps yet." Will says she is beautiful and then gives her a kiss. He asks her to come back the next day so his guys can apologize.
Puck tells Artie he's leaving town instead of picking up trash along the highway. He says there were some tough kids in juvi and he has no intention of going back. Artie says he owes Puck for making him feel cool and says he'll tutor him in geometry if he picks up trash. Artie has him promise to give him six weeks.
Karofsky nails Kurt into the locker once again.
The Glee guys tell Beiste they think she's awesome, "like a mashup." The dedicate a mashup of Diana Ross & The Supremes' "Stop In the Name of Love" and En Vogue
's "Free Your Mind." Beiste thanks them and they give her a hug.
