Intense/moving
jmalonear25 January 2011
This was the most intense and yet emotionally moving episode to date. Just when you think you have answers, all you end up with is more questions! Ryan and Esposito really step up to the plate in this episode. They really prove they are more than just good cops. Martha poses a great question to Rick, but of course he never directly answers it! But it seems that Rick is finally taking a look at things for what they really are. Beckett has never looked better. She is unbelievably gorgeous in this episode. However, she appears to show a different side of her self in this episode! A side that I personally love! Be sure and check this episode out. It would be great if you have already been watching the other seasons, but by itself, this episode is top notch! Excellent episode!

The most Intriguing and Overwhelming Episode in all seasons together!

Warning: Spoilers
This is perhaps all the team crew and cast at its best. This episode is pure genius and something we all have been waiting for - A look inside Kate's mother's murder. The episode starts with a bang with the shot at the man who could tell Kate about her mother's death. And then it goes down to all minute to minute action with Kate losing control and showing a deadly side of her that is most welcome. And finally the moment came when Castle and Beckett realize what they mean to each other. There's a juicy piece of clip that is long awaited.

Also, Ryan and Esposito both are perhaps the best acts in this episode and that is what makes this episode a bit laughable (Rick not his usual self here!). But Stana steals the show along with Nathan with their characters and be on a lookout specially for the last scene where I adored Kate.

This episode has everything crew behind Castle was making us wait for...thoroughly satisfying yet leaving you wanting more...

Easily the best episode of Castle yet.

Warning: Spoilers
I have long regarded Castle as a decent show -- not bad, not necessarily great. Still, the show does have its moments, and this episode was one of them.

Castle's strongest episodes have always been those that deal with Detective Beckett's mother's murder, but this episode quite easily blows every previous episode out of the water. Firstly, we finally see Beckett absolutely lose it during an interrogation and get kicked off the case as a result. I may be wrong about this, but it seems like every time she's "off" a case, she comes back somehow. It's a nice change to see her stay off a case for once. It also provides us insight into the kind of person she is, given that she keeps all the relevant information about her mother's case in her apartment, just in case.

We also see Detectives Esposito and Ryan come into their own. Their performance in their interrogation was a bit fleeting, but still excellent.

And finally, Castle really starts to take things seriously. He accepts that he's not researching for the books anymore, and yet his motives are still somewhat unclear. We know that he's around for Beckett, but it seems now like he's there not just for the chance to be with her, but also to be there for her.

I find myself unable to specify what exactly makes this episode so brilliant, but I'll try. The story is a deviation from the normal Castle formula, at least in that it has a lot more to do with the characters than it normally does. None of the actors' performances came off as contrived or fake, there was good acting all around. It felt like the stakes were higher than in any other episode, and not just because most of the cast was in mortal danger at some time or another throughout the episode.

In a word, it was intense.

Breath taken

First of all, read the above, some are well written.

I just saw it and I couldn't help it, I had to write a comment into awesome episode. (I had to create an account first)

This episode finally make a move on one of the series plot lines. Bring some characters to a whole new level. Lots of surprise, I held my breath (figure of speech) since the very first minutes until the final showdown. Some character's crisis too but some very good stuff between some.

I don't even dare to tell more about it since it's a "must be seen" episode in this "must be seen" series.

For me, this stuff is way above "Lost" (that's just my opinion, don't troll)

"Castle" doesn't get any better than this!

Warning: Spoilers
Best episode of S3 until this point..I'm almost 3 yrs late in reviewing this episode & hence I have got around to watching the rest of the season, but I assure you 'NO SPOILERS'.

  • All round excellent, if not often pitch-perfect, acting from the cast. The episode not only focuses mainly on Rick & Kate but also focuses equally on Cp. Montgomery, Esposito & Ryan and their respective portrayers don't disappoint at all...which is one of the strength of this wonderful show.

  • The plot was perfectly played out. We got enough fodder on Kate's mother's murder to get us through a few weeks but not enough so as to keep us practically salivating till the next outing.

  • The chemistry between Rick & Kate was literally simmering & bubbling on the surface & it all came to a heady explosive peak when Castle grabbed Kate & kissed her right on the lips! Too bad it was mainly undercover but still at least 90% of the kiss was genuine. Kate was moaning so sensually I thought they might forget they had to save their buddies & hop into the nearest motel or if not their car!!

  • Perfect ending scene. It was as true to Kate's nature as a scene will ever get to. Determination, diligence, intimidating, honest, fair, bad- ass..and more of what Kate is true to heart. NO matter how tough a nut Lockwood is & whether he cracks or not, he must be privately admiring this wonderful strong woman standing in front of him & thinking this is as close to a match as I'm ever gonna get!

  • Again this episode reassures me that "Castle" is THE best show for me at least. No showboating around, no big sets or big mighty budgets, no big divas running around. Just old school, true to heart, life affirming stuff. Which is why Castle is my special private sanctuary..the place I snuck into when I started college in a foreign country & got me through the tough times & here I am 3 yrs on in my final year still lying snug inside my little Castle kingdom.

Until now

Warning: Spoilers
Well, i started watching this show couple of weeks ago. All i did was catching up read some reviews and ratings from diverse web sites for some good shows. So i gave the show a chance, i never knew the actors either and i never watched, csi mcsi nycsi lasvegacsi lacsi nevadacsi alaskacsi cis and the navy version.

Anyway, i thought of writing a review and share my experience with you.

This show has tons of good actors and a lot of good ideas that get pretty well combined. Each episode has almost a new storyline, except the ones that are involved with the case of Det. Becketts mom, which are 3 or 4 so far. That is the main attraction of this series, how Det. Beckett searches for the killer(s) of her mom and also having Castle under her wing, which turns out to be a lifesaving deal.

On this episode finally there was a tongue to tongue scene between, the main characters. It lasted pretty long in my humble opinion (3 seasons), but thats the nice part of this show.

It doesn't exaggerate!

Everything is plain and simple, which makes this show entertaining enough for everyone that loves nice detective stories.

Result : Best episode so far

Dissenting opinion
Jackbv1237 January 2022
I am not a fan of the episodes about Beckett's mom's murder. Once in a while, I can live with but not love it. So far in the series, they have kept it to a minimum. I happen to believe that the initial low points in the series are coming down the road a bit when Beckett starts getting obsessed with finding the people responsible. This of course leads to episodes in the late seasons, especially the last, where Beckett faces the consequences of what she's told in this episode about that murder leading into areas where she shouldn't be delving. I happen to remember that Serpico was based on a true life NYC cop and fighting corruption in high places is truly dangerous especially alone. I'm not commenting that the story line is either good or bad - I just don't like going down that road, especially in this series that has so many other great things going for it. Katic and Fillion manage to have great chemistry that sucks me in as a viewer, despite whatever is true about the rumors about them behind the scenes. This series was brilliant when it capitalized on that and I am disappointed that they felt they had to resort to this other storyline to maintain interest.

This episode manages to handle all this pretty well yet, but there are tense moments. The writers and director still manage to mix humor and danger well without being totally flippant about it. And there are some tender moments along the way. All of these things foreshadow some good future episodes before they go too far and ruin a great thing.
