Beckett is contacted by John Raglan, the investigating detective on the homicide of her mother, who is dying and, tormented by his conscience, has information about the original failed investigation. But before he can pass it on, Raglan is murdered by a sniper in front of Castle and Beckett; determined to uncover what Raglan knew, Beckett begins to investigate old leads in her mother's murder, but is soon suspended from the case after her integrity is challenged by her emotional investment. As Ryan and Esposito continue the investigation, Castle and Beckett launch their own unofficial inquiries -- and both teams soon find themselves up against a mysterious individual with power and influence who is willing to kill to ensure his secrets remain safe. Did You Know?

This is the first time that Castle admits he has feelings for Beckett that are more than platonic. He doesn't say anything explicitly, but confesses to his mother that spending time at the precinct has become about more than just inspiration for his books. See more »

When Raglan is shot and his cup shatters, he slumps off of his seat. As the camera used changes, he is seen sat straight up before slumping out of his seat again. See more »

Kate Beckett: There was a lawyer named Johanna Beckett. Are you familiar with her? She was murdered in the alley about seven years into your incarceration.
Joe Pulgatti: You look just like her, you know. You first walked in here, it was like I was looking at a ghost. The way she talked about you, I should've known you'd become a cop. I sent letters to every lawyer I could find, and your mother was the only one who wrote me back. The only one willing to take a chance on me. She didn't care that I was a thug.

This was the most intense and yet emotionally moving episode to date. Just when you think you have answers, all you end up with is more questions! Ryan and Esposito really step up to the plate in this episode. They really prove they are more than just good cops. Martha poses a great question to Rick, but of course he never directly answers it! But it seems that Rick is finally taking a look at things for what they really are. Beckett has never looked better. She is unbelievably gorgeous in this episode. However, she appears to show a different side of her self in this episode! A side that I personally love! Be sure and check this episode out. It would be great if you have already been watching the other seasons, but by itself, this episode is top notch! Excellent episode!
